Position Summary

The position will support the Telecommunications Construction Engineering group. The Telecom Designer will be primarily drafting and designing electrical drawings, working with the construction engineers, and preparing bills of materials. Support the design and engineering process by planning and preparing drawings for construction of new, and removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optic cables, and conduits to obtain optimum and economical utilization of communications facilities. The role commands a broad knowledge of aerial, buried, underground and building entrance design.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Draft and design electrical drawings such as rack front views and one-lines in Microstation
Collect information necessary to complete drawings from verbal communications, sketches, marked prints, field notes, vendor’s catalogs, and technical reference manuals.
Create and verify bills of materials are accurate.
Determine and write purchase requisitions.
Complete cost estimates.
Follow safe work habits and adhere to all safety rules and practices.
Comply with company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Work under minimal supervision of Designer III, IV, and Senior Designers
Position requires up to 5% travel for site visits
Education and Experience Requirements
Two to five years of experience in electrical drafting, design of schematics, or creating wiring diagrams
Two to five years of experience creating/updating drawings
Two to five years of experience using CAD software (e.g. Microstation, AutoCAD, etc.)
Knowledge of structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and/or copper cable design, build, installation and security a plus
Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology or equivalent experience and/or education
