The Main Responsibilities
Troubleshoots and repairs Midrange Servers and related computer equipment. Upgrades hardware and firmware on midrange servers, installs and de-installs various computer equipment.
Monitor and perform on-going maintenance on servers and network equipment.
Provide IT support to internal and external customers in a 24 X 7 on-call operation.
Run hardware diagnostics and replace failing parts in a timely manner.
Runs diagnostic test programs, analyzes defects, test, and repairs various types of midrange servers and peripheral equipment using machine diagnostics and digital communications.
Upgrade internal system components, including CPUs, memory, hard drives, and network cables.
Tests and analyzes equipment trouble. Document process and keep maintenance logs.
Interfaces with computer systems users, clients, and support groups by performing problem analysis and problem resolution.
Analyzes change requests and trouble tickets for accuracy using Lumen’s trouble reporting ticketing system.
Interfaces with clients to confirm all information relating to change orders, trouble reports and equipment configuration and capabilities.
Updates and/or closes trouble tickets related to equipment problems using Service Now ticketing system.
Maintains inventory database of installed servers for change control and problem management
Installs and maintains fiber optics circuitry and backbone.
Moves and/or lifts objects such as servers, tools and test sets.
Attend SWAT and SOA calls
Troubleshoot and report server hardware problems discovered during a walkthrough of the datacenter.
Support Lumen’s backup and disaster recovery operation.
Monitor backup media activity on midrange & mainframe systems.
Perform weekly, monthly, and yearly backup on critical systems. Coordinate with offsite vendor to store the backed-up data.
What We Look For in a Candidate
2-3 years of experience as a data center technician or similar.
In-depth knowledge of data center environments, servers, and network equipment.
Exceptional ability to work as part of a team, provide IT support, and resolve errors.
Exceptional communication skills.
Willingness to respond to network and server errors after hours.
Knowledge of AC/DC
Ability to use a multimeter
Understand basic IP networking
Experience with digital circuitry
Operational knowledge of Windows and Unix servers and peripherals manufactured by HP, IBM and SUN, Dell, Citrix
Working knowledge of UNIX, Windows, Linux, Solaris & VMWARE operating systems.
Valid State driver’s license and a good driving record.
Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable color, with basic knowledge of cable properties.
Ability to perform strenuous physical activities such as lifting 60 lbs. and moving up to 200 lbs.
Previous Data Center experience with midrange servers and minicomputers.
Advanced hardware knowledge
Compensation
Wage scale $14.33 to $39.54
This is based on previous work experience.
