The Department
Strategic Advisers, LLC is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity's retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 25 years Strategic Advisers has specialized in the design, construction, and management of asset allocation solutions, as well as the methodologies for many of Fidelity's investment planning tools, to help investors reach their financial goals. With more than $750 billion in assets under management in a blend of Fidelity and third-party investment vehicles, the Strategic Advisers team of investment professionals' constructs and manages asset allocation portfolios for close to three million customer accounts.
Role
The Alternatives Risk Analyst will be responsible for all aspects of the risk management of our alternative investment portfolios. This will include risk modeling and oversight, scenario analysis and stress testing, factor exposure and impact analysis. Furthermore, you will partner with the portfolio manager and your research peers on portfolio construction leveraging your insights from the factor and risk characteristics of the different alternatives' strategies.
Given the short track record and opaque nature of many alternative strategies, this role requires creativity, thoughtfulness, and experience with derivatives. You'll be hands-on with data management and model maintenance and improvements using SQL and R or similar languages.
Located in Boston, you will be embedded with the SAI Alternatives Team and will work closely with portfolio managers and research analysts. You will report directly to the head of risk management.
Responsibilities
As the Alternatives Risk Analyst, your primary responsibilities include:
Partner with the portfolio manager and research peers to define and build the relevant risk management models and infrastructure.Design the tools used to manage the risk and performance of the alts portfolio in partnership with the Portfolio manager. Lead the data strategy, technology, and the central risk management teams on the implementation of these initiatives.Partnering with the alternatives quantitative researcher and fundamental analysts to build and maintain a factor library of hedge fund/alternative risk premia style factors to better understand the common risk factors and return drivers of liquid alternative strategiesIdentifying the key sources of risk embedded in the portfolio and present their impact to the CIO and Portfolio manager.Suggest potential hedges to both the alts and the multi-asset class investment teams and collaborate on rebalancing and portfolio optimization.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who have the following characteristics:
Advanced degree in a relevant field requiredAt least 10 years of relevant experience, incl. liquid alternatives and derivatives risk management requiredDeep knowledge of risk management techniques and vendor models & tools like Blackrock Aladdin, Axioma, Barra, RiskMetricsAbility to think strategically to enable working in and across a heavily matrixed organizationStrong programming and database skills e.g., R, Python, SQLExcellent written and oral communication skills
