Communication is one of the most critical aspects of any job, but it is especially important in the Surgical Onsite Specialist role. Our Surgical Onsite Specialists maintain oversight of instrumentation and equipment for identified/requested procedures/services between the OR and Sterile Processing Department (SPD). They are responsible for assisting in projects and process improvement initiatives in compliance with contractual obligations.
What You Will Do
Manages daily operations of all activities that relate to single routine procedures to include all tower functions, pre-operative set up, knowledge and application of instrumentation at the hospital.
Oversees daily activities between the Operating Room (OR) and Central Sterile Services Department (CSS) to facilitate efficient case flow.
Setup Operating Room (O.R.) for surgery:
Verify that equipment and instrument trays are available prior to case start times and timely communicate to the surgical team essential instrumentation information that may affect or delay surgery start time. This includes verification that required instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for next-day, call or weekend cases.
Set up all equipment before the start of the procedure which includes but not limited to moving equipment into the operating room, turning it on, checking the settings, and ensuring cables are properly connected.
Provide in room technical support for procedures to include equipment, instrumentation, and disposables for contracted services.
End of procedure duties:
Shut down and disconnect equipment and return to storage location.
Assist in breaking down sterile setup.
Tags any instrument in need of repair or sharpening.
Ensure quality of tray returns (remove indicators, liners, towels, all instruments are opened and sprayed).
Return dirty case cart to CSPD (dirty elevator).
Participates and assists in the new employee orientation, on the job training, in-service education and or quality assurance programs when needed.
What You Need to Be Successful
High School Diploma and 3+ years of O.R., SPD, or work experience is required.
CRCST (HSPA) or CSPDT (CBSPD) certification is required. Certification must be maintained per renewal schedule.
Must also obtain CIS/CSIS, CER/CFER, or STERIS Assessment certification within 12 months of hire or promotion.
Requires thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and is capable of learning software programs and/or hardware as required. Requires Smart Phone knowledge.
Able to perform all job requirements of a Surgical Onsite Specialist I.
Must be able to be compliant with hospital/customer credentialing requirements
