Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 26-bed unit provides care toapproximately 350 newborns annually. The unit consists of both private andsemi-private rooms equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment. This unithas an expansive interprofessional team and together make up many unit-basedcommittees with focus on training and quality improvement initiatives. TheNICU's nurse to patient ratio is 1:2.5 and is supported by socialworkers, pediatric pharmacists, respiratory therapists, speech,occupational and physical therapists. We practice family centered care, andparents play an important role in the care and development of their baby.
Job Summary
Under general supervision, provides administrative and clerical assistanceto support the operation of the assigned nursing unit. Collaborates with otherstaff and leaders in the development, management, and operation of the unit.
Essential Functions:
Monitors incoming computerized or written orders in a timely and accuratemanner. Transcribes physicians' orders accurately. Notifies RN of STATorders. Clarifies difficult to read orders. (20%)Acts as a greeter to the unit in a manner that shows awareness of cultural andage differences. Always maintains patient confidentially. Performs all dutiesin relating to the public, patients, and families with customersatisfaction as a goal. Answers phones and call lights in a timely manner.Takes accurate messages and relays patient info to Nursing. (20%)Activates patients in appropriate systems. Obtains medical record number andpatient stickers. Prepares chart, patient bands, and appropriatepaperwork. Transfer patients' information when necessary. Ensures paperworkis submitted and exchanged. (20%)Prepares discharge, transfer or demise records and completes paperwork.Ensures records are ready to send to Medical Records. Prepares and distributesFlow Sheets for required units each day. Files face sheets, lab slips, andappointments in each patient chart on required units. (20%)Prepares laboratory slips, enters orders in the computer, andcalls/schedules appointments according to written or verbal orders.Organizes charts. (10%)Interacts in a professional manner with colleagues and the public,consistent wit the Denver Dozen, and the mission of Denver Health.Participates in the peer review process.0 (10%)Education:
No High School Diploma and/or No GEDWork Experience:
1-3 years clerical or customer service experience RequiredLicenses:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical terminology.Must have mathematical and organizational abilities.Good written and oral communication skills.Must be detail oriented and able to problem solve minor issues.Able to work in and around a busy surgical setting.Ability to read and follow written instructions and to write brief notes aboutactivities performed during the shift.Ability to cover more than one unit.Microsoft Office Suite required
