SUMMARY Responsible for work direction and leadership to a specific Development Engineering work group (i.e. Hardware, Test, Mechanical, Software or Process Development). Provides technical leadership and input for projects across Benchmark Electronics, Inc. in addition to specific work group leadership. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide assistance and technical leadership to specific work group, as applicable. Provide project level leadership and organization, as required, for multiple concurrent projects. Provide project leadership, mentoring and training for work group members. Develop and deploy processes and systems within the work group. Participate in identification and development of new and/or advanced technology initiatives. Provide research and development for new design methods and tools. Report a summary of project financial information, resource loading/planning, financial forecast and coworker issues to Manager on a regular basis. Maintain immediate term work group resource allocation and long term resource planning. Ensure released Benchmark process instructions are followed. Interact with other Benchmark work groups. Develop justifications and purchase proposals for new equipment in support of work group growth in technology and coworker abilities. Maintain attendance records for work group. Provide input regarding work group member performance to Development Engineering Manager for annual compensation changes and performance reviews. Support initial and mature Benchmark Sales activities; Work with customers to understand customer requirements regarding a product design. Assist leadership of department staff growth, including hiring of new staff, guidance for career path planning and technical mentoring Recommend and select new hires; Recommend and perform disciplinary action up to and including termination for a staff of 3+ employees. Attend Benchmark leadership training classes and utilize training in leadership role. Responsible for duties of Principal Engineer in the applicable work group All employees are responsible for the Quality of their work to ensure BEI meets or exceeds Customer Satisfaction. POSITION MEASURMENTS Position performance may be measured from a combination of Corporate and Divisional Balanced Score Card Goals which will include but not limited to Financial Performance, Customer Satisfaction, Operational Excellence and Employee Focus. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Must have specific experience in applicable functional area to supervise that area. Computer literate in word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications. Intermediate or high level knowledge of applicable tools, software languages, revision control, verification, validation and/or programming techniques, as applicable to specific work group. Demonstrate strong leadership skills and organizational abilities to lead the specific work group. Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of various manufacturing processes for product parts and tooling in the specific work group. Demonstrate ability to assemble and present technical presentations in support of technology exchange. Demonstrate confidentiality regarding coworker and Benchmark business related knowledge.
