Duties: Leads and directs design engineer team to ensure that they meet the requirements, concepts, and design development timing schedules as established by the customer for all new lighting programs. Assigns workload and priorities for design engineer team to meet project objectives. Ensures that design engineers provide the required support to the designers during the design and development process. Ensures that design engineers: Understand the change management process (both customer and NAL driven). Review all revised drawings against ECR's to be sure that all changes are reflected and accurate. Submit all revised drawings to document control prior to sending package out to customer. Understand/execute requirements to release CAD model and drawings into customer's system. Review drawings with new product launch team to guarantee that all processes and tolerances meet manufacturing requirements, and that they are correct and achievable. Establish and maintain DFMEA's, DVP's, and design micro-schedules per company standards. Promotes efficient and effective communication and interaction between design engineering, designers, and other launch team members to ensure that NAL manufacturing can process and build production design, and still meet customer requirements and NAL standards. Assists design engineers to ensure that they consider value engineering during all phases of product development to save customer/NAL any unnecessary costs. Participates in Design Reviews and oversees the communication of project status and issues with the department manager and the launch team members in order to effectively resolve issues as they arise. Ensures that design engineers request assistance from the CAE group to ensure all aspects of design development have been reviewed and approved to meet all customer, NAL, and legal requirements. Reviews the results of testing performed during design validation process with design engineers, and oversees the implementation of any changes resulting from any test failures. Mentors, trains, and coaches his/her design engineering team members to raise their skill level. Identifies, recommends, and coordinates the implementation of new policies, procedures, or process improvements relating to the design and development process for new automotive lighting programs.
Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or related plus 6 years related experience. Must have 6 years of experience in each of the following: Engineering or Manufacturing experience; Plastic injection molds and tooling. Must have 2 years experience in lighting design.
