Our typical summer internships last approximately 12 weeks.At CPCCo, located in Richland, Washington, we are working to provide a sustainable future for the historic Hanford area through the protection of the Columbia River and the remediation of the Central Plateau. To achieve our mission, we need exceptionally talented, innovative, and driven people to help us reduce risks on the Hanford Site by removing some of the most hazardous waste streams and facilities in the Department of Energy (DOE) complex. The work will be technical in nature and related to the degree the intern is pursuing. The intern should be able to walk away from the internship with valuable learning that applies to their chosen degree.This internship is in Richland, WA; the work site may be within the city limits or outside on the Hanford site.The Environmental Scientist internship position will report to Sample Management and Reporting within Soil and Groundwater Operations. Sample Management and Reporting holds the analytical laboratory contracts for CPCCo and provides projects analytical and data management support.Responsibilities during this internship include, but are not limited to, the following:* Reviewing requirements documents and analytical method requirements in sample data tracking databasefor completeness and correctness. Updating method and laboratory requirements as needed in thedatabase.* Research historical method detection limits for total organic halides (TOX) compared to required detectionlimits.* Reviewing and updating laboratories' method detection limits and practical quantitation limits in SampleManagement and Reporting's recommended practical quantitation limits document.* Reviewing groundwater sample paperwork prior to release of the paperwork to the field samplers.* Reviewing completed groundwater and characterization paperwork for completeness once samples havebeen collected.Basic Qualifications* At least 18 years of age.* An active full-time student during the two semesters/quarters immediately preceding the assignment.* Maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) during their college enrollment.* Able to work full-time (40 hours) during the internship experience.
