Position Summary: The City of Abilene Public Works Department isaccepting applications for a full time Street Maintenance worker at 40hours a week with the potential for intermittent overtime. This positionis responsible for performing semi-skilled and unskilled labor in therepairs and maintenance of streets, signs, flood control and stormdrains. This employee should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, andthe ability and willingness to learn quickly.

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Streets and Utilities Superintendent, theStreet Maintenance Worker I is a non-exempt position under FLSA whichperforms semi-skilled and unskilled labor in the repairs and maintenanceof streets and Right-of Ways. This position is responsible for operatinga variety of equipment and performing manual labor in the maintenance ofstreets, signs, flood control and storm drains. This employee shouldpossess a strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability and willingness tolearn quickly.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs street and curb maintenance procedures;Safely and effectively operate departmental equipment;Installs and replaces street signs and pavement markings;Perform snow and ice control procedures;Respond to emergency call outs.Ancillary Job Functions:
Assists other divisions of Public Works as needed;Assists other departments as the need arises;Assists with repairs to water and sewer lines;Education and Experience:
This is an entry level position, so no previous experience is required,but is preferred. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessaryinformation and skills to perform the job reasonably well within sixmonths of employment.
A high school diploma or GED is preferred, and a valid Kansas Driver\'sLicense is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:(Not all inclusive)
The ability and willingness to learn about equipment maintenance andconstruction materials is required. This employee must be able tooperate trucks, hand tools, small-motorized equipment and otherdepartmental equipment. The ability to read and interpret writteninstructions, and effective oral and written communication skills arerequired.
Work Environment:Adverse working conditions exist within thisposition. Exposure to hazardous chemicals is expected. This position mayrequire duties to be performed in all types of weather conditions.
Physical Abilities:Manual labor including lifting and carrying heavymaterial, pushing, pulling and the ability to operate departmentalequipment is required to perform the daily duties of this position.
