You will drive development of custom designs and lead characterization of commercial, off-the-shelf components to achieve a low-cost, light-weight, and reliable systems that meet the performance requirements. Along the way, we guarantee that you will learn a lot, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.Export Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.About the teamProject Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:Redmond, WA, USA- Master's Degree in Physics, Electronics, or Communication Engineering.- 7+ years of experience in hardware systems development across full product life cycles - concept to production.- Experience with coherent modem algorithm design and implementation.- High speed optical communications lab experience: characterization of devices, test equipment, such as BER test equipment, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and optical components, such as lasers, detectors, modulators, modems.- Experience with in-depth knowledge of Verilog HDL, system engineering, algorithm development, and modeling.- Experience with soft and hard decision error correction design, implementation and verification.- PhD Degree in Physics, Electronics, or Communication Engineering.- Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trade-offs.- Experience in automated testing and system characterization.- Ability to provide thought leadership and key input on new initiatives as well as on programs underway.- Ability to regularly engage with senior stake holders and influence across the organization- Knowledge of opto-electronics/chip industries and suppliers.Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
