About the role:
We are currently seeking aSenior Mine Engineerto join our Engineering team at our Shoal Creek Mine, located in Oakman, AL. Shoal Creek Mine is one of the deepest underground coal mines in the U.S. Located on the Black Warrior River with barge transportation leading to the Port of Mobile in the Gulf of Mexico, it produces one of the highest qualities of met coal in the US. Eight-foot-tall entries, a brand-new longwall, paved road into the mine and 15 years of coal reserves make Shoal Creek mine an ideal place to work.
Located in between Jefferson, Walker, and Tuscaloosa counties in Alabama, this location offers beautiful rivers and lakes, landscapes, and rolling hills at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. A major airport is just under an hour away in Birmingham. Minutes from Tuscaloosa and other Western Alabama towns, the Oakman area provides a diverse, family-friendly community with something for everyone. A vibrant downtown with excellent restaurants and plenty of nightlife, a beautiful riverfront amphitheater for major concerts and events, safe, friendly neighborhoods, and excellent schools top the list, including the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa, home of the Crimson Tide in nearby Tuscaloosa. Responsibilities:
The Senior Mine Engineer will plan and coordinate engineering feasibility studies, mine plans, capital requirements, and mine designs. Provide engineering support for all projects related to reserve development, mine planning, drainage control, surveying, environmental, and mine mapping.
Duties will include:
Closely collaborate with Maintenance Longwall Coordinator to meet daily production targets.Ensure LW maintenance and production planning is effectively managed to ensure optimization of production targets.Provide a daily detailed Longwall maintenance and production plan to front-line supervisors.Ensure the use of all salaried and represented personnel is efficiently aligned.Identify and implement improvement strategies targeting reliability of Longwall machines.Work with each department to ensure planning is optimized and there is efficient use of all resources at the mine.Timely escalation of maintenance issues that impact safety of people or production to the Director of Operations and Director of Maintenance.Ensure effective project management of major overhaul and repair equipment including planning, implementation, and budgeting.Life of mine (LOM) strategic planning for equipment requirements, equipment lifecycle management and project requirements.All Major Maintenance outage and projects have a clear scope of works, project schedule (Gantt chart), forecast costing, quality assurance procedures and commissioning documentation.Ensure business processes and controls are followed in accordance with established procedures.Review and set annual budgets and forecasts in consultation with all key stakeholders.Ensure compliance with Peabody purchasing polices and expenditure authority.Compliance with the site safety management systemEnsure all other incidents and near misses, associated with Maintenance are reported and investigated in line with Site and Peabody Standards.Ensure regular audits are completed on MSHA regulation and Peabody Policy.Compliance with all Safety and Operational performance measuresTeam approach to work, open communication with all Stakeholders. This position will work Monday-Friday. This position may also require the necessity to work weekends, holidays, or another shift as deemed necessary.

About you:
High school diploma or equivalent requiredBachelor's degree in engineering preferred.Minimum of 8-10 years of Underground Longwall Mining experience.High level of understanding and knowledge of the MSHA Mining Acts and Regulations.Mine Foreman Certification or ability to obtain.Experience in planning and execution techniquesStrong financial and analytical skills related to budgeting.Supervisory and/or crew lead experience preferred.Equipment reliability trending analystKnowledge of conducting safety and incident inspections and completing risk assessments and job safety analysis.Excellent interpersonal skills including the proven ability to resolve conflict, effective oral and written communication, strategic thinker, leader, and driver.Must be willing to work on any assigned shift and on scheduled weekends.Must be willing to rotate through the different production sections for a better understanding of our processes until up to speed.Physical Requirements - Underground:
Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom.Walking ability will be judged according to SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA.Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height.Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination.Must have the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.This is a Safety Sensitive Role.
