  Summary

  The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) is looking to hire a Simulation Nurse Specialist to facilitate basic to intermediate health care simulations. The selected candidate will provide basic technical, clinical and educational support (including preparatory work and oversight) during undergraduate and graduate simulation-based educational activities within the CLC.The ideal candidate will have some experience working with high and mid-fidelity manikins, task trainers, and operating healthcare simulation software.This position requires on-site work at the U-M School of Nursing.

  The Clinical Learning Center provides unparalleled learning resources for nursing students. From a Skills Lab for honing basic skills to state of the art, high-fidelity simulation suite that replicate real medical situations, this environment enables students to apply their in-depth knowledge of nursing theory and practice in a safe and supportive environment. The CLC is currently comprised of five main areas: Nursing Skills Lab, Physical Assessment Lab, Simulation Room, Control Room, and a Debriefing Room.   Responsibilities*

  Simulation Nurse Specialist will operationalize simulation for the graduate and undergraduate nursing programs, including:

  Set-up, and tear-down, equipment performance; trouble-shoot as necessary to complete the simulation.

  Communicate all problems with equipment function, including needs for repair, maintenance, calibration, updating, or replacement to the CLC Directors.

  Piloting and implementing simulated patient/clinical scenarios.

  Follow protocol to maintain inventory of medical equipment, simulators, and disposable medical supplies, and report needed materials for ordering.

  Accept short-term projects to advance strategic goals or meet urgent needs.

  The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed and are not an exhaustive list of all associated responsibilities. Proportions of time spent will vary significantly over the summer months where simulation technician work is lighter.

  Required Qualifications*

  Education and Experience :

  A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.

  Copy of your nursing license in the State of Michigan is required for this position.

  Some experience with high-fidelity simulation equipment and task trainers or experience in a clinical healthcare setting (e.g., EMT, ED, Anesthesia technician, ORT, etc.); and an Associate's degree or various relevant coursework, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be attained is required.

  Demonstrated ability to understand and operate most equipment found in a healthcare setting.

  Demonstrated basic knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

  Demonstrated basic knowledge of the features and capabilities of basic multimedia equipment, including video equipment.

  Some prior experience in computer use, set-up, troubleshooting, and maintenance required. Proficiency with databases, digital audio-visual editing, ability to learn new technologies quickly and easily. Experience with setting up audiovisual equipment preferred.

  Demonstrated experience at the intermediate level in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook), Win2000, XP, Windows 10, Mac OS, and other types of databases.

  Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums including strong oral, presentation skills and written communication skills. Must have very strong interpersonal/customer service skills and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

  Attributes :

  Previous experience in healthcare simulation preferred.

  Previous experience supporting faculty in an academic or professional development environment.

  Demonstrated team spirit, dependability, and initiative.

  Ability to serve diverse populations.

  Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and direct the activities of others and/or accept direction from others.

  Demonstrated ability to establish excellent working relationships with faculty, staff, students and prospective students and their families. Must have the ability to work comfortably with individuals at all levels.

  Must be able to demonstrate ability to set priorities and multi-task and meet deadlines.

  Must have a professional demeanor and presentation of self and strong decision-making ability.

  Additional Information

  Shift/Hours/Days: The CLC is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This position will have varying hours between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.; Monday through Friday. Due to the nature of the simulation schedule(s), start/end times may differ outside the core hours to cover the early-morning and late-afternoon simulations; some occasional weekend and evening hours may be required. Weekend or evening hours will be assigned in advance, with the exception of unforeseen circumstances. Schedules will be adjusted so as not to exceed 40 hours of work per week, when possible.

  Salary Range: This is a 10-month position, August through May. The salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. We encourage all interested parties to apply.
