Greene County Highway Department Job Announcement:SERVICE MECHANIC$23.13 per hour (Grade 3, Step 0)This is skilled work involving responsibility for the performance of inspections, maintenance, and simple light repairs on medium and heavy trucks, various equipment and air brakes systems. This position differs from that of Automotive Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Repairman, as the incumbent will not be performing the general or more complex repairs, or operating the shop or metal working machines. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Shop Foreman or Superintendent of Highway, with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment. Does related duties as required.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge in the lubrication, maintenance, adjustment, and repair of medium and heavy trucks, various equipment and air brake systems; Ability to perform routine inspections of vehicles and equipment; Ability to read, interpret, and apply information; Ability to maintain service and repair records; Ability to perform metal cutting, welding, and cutting torch skills; Ability to work independently; Good motor and hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years’ experience as a journeyman automotive mechanic in a standard repair shop or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.Special Requirement: Possession of a valid New York State driver license time of appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment.Submission of a Greene County employment application is required that shows you meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
