As a Senior Software Engineer (Identity) you will be working with the Authentication Resilience team which builds services and technologies to ensure that the identity stack is always up and running, and users can always log in. We drive towards 99.99% availability and beyond by building redundancies and backup systems at all layers of the identity stack. We work with services across Microsoft and provide features and libraries to improve reliability and safety nets to minimize the impact of any possible issues, so that our shared customers can remain productive and secure.

Responsibilities
We are looking for engineers with a "learn-it-all mindset" with experiences working with all service aspects of high scale, high-availability, and multi-tenant services, ability to design components carefully, properly handle errors, write clean and well-factored code with good tests and good maintainability.

Implement high-quality features with an eye towards availability, diagnosability, and redundancy
Collaborate and lead colleagues and partners within the team, Identity, and throughout Microsoft to design for resilience across multiple service components
Debug issues in production and respond to them quickly to mitigate customer impact
Approach difficult problems with an open mind, helping to build services and features that meet complex technical, security, and standards requirements
Optimize existing features to lower their compute, memory, and/or latency requirements.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience building and maintaining high-scale, high-availability distributed systems.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualification:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience
2+ years implementing and maintaining identity authentication protocols, such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and/or SAML2
2+ years working with reverse proxy-based routing technology.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $104,000 - CAD $193,200 per year.
