Chenango County's Treasury Department has an opening for a SENIOR SOCIAL WELFARE EXAMINER. This is a position in the Chenango County Department of Social Services. The work involves responsibility for monitoring and assisting a group of Social Welfare Examiners in establishing financial and programmatic eligibility for the various programs administered by the local social services district. The incumbent, depending on the workload of the unit to which assigned, may oversee the work of Examiners, be responsible for a specific function or section, or be engaged in employment, intake and eligibility related activities. Some travel to client homes, hospitals, or nursing homes may be required of incumbents in this position. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level departmental employee in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures. Supervision is exercised over the work of Social Welfare Examiners and other subordinate staff. <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER<li>(A) Successful completion of at least 60 semester credit hours and one year of full-time paid experience or its' part-time equivalent in examining, investigating, or evaluating claims for assistance, veterans or unemployment benefits, insurance, or a similar program operating under established criteria for eligibility; OR<li> (B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three years of experience as described in (A) above; OR<li>(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.<p>

　　The position has a 37 1/2 hour work week and 2024 starting pay rate is $22.93 per hour and includes a full benefits package.<p>A Civil Service examination will be required for permanent appointment at a later date.
