We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join our Protein Development group. This position will be focused on expression and purification of proteins to support the efforts of Regeneron's structural biology group in X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM). You will work closely with scientists in the structural biology group to develop purification procedures to deliver highly pure and homogeneous protein samples. The proteins in question will be very diverse, including soluble proteins, integral membrane proteins, multi-protein complexes, antibodies, engineered constructs, etc. Most will be human in origin, and in most cases only the human protein will do - we will not have the luxury of testing other species for better behaved homologues. Integral membrane proteins will need to be solubilized using various techniques drawn from the structural biology literature, including detergents, amphipols, and nanodiscs.

　　As a Senior Scientist, a typical day might include:

　　Designing and conducting protein expression and purification protocols

　　Optimizing experimental procedures, drawing on available literature and previous results

　　Thinking about new approaches to get around an obstacle with current expression or purification efforts

　　Presenting results and discussing plans with a variety of audiences, from small core teams all the way to VP-level meetings

　　In order to be considered for this role, you must have at least a Ph.D. with 0-2 years post degree or a BS/MS and 8+ years of relevant experience in membrane protein biochemistry, structural biology, or a related field. You should have substantial protein expression and purification experience in a number of different systems (bacterial, insect, and/or mammalian cells; membrane vs. soluble proteins; multi-protein complexes; etc.) Experience with tissue culture is preferred. Innovation at this stage may save a lot of time in later experiments, so creativity and trying new ideas will be a key part of the job duties.
