The Sr. Process Engineer will be responsible for providing direction, support and resources to the gas processing plants to ensure downtime is minimized, and optimization and production goals are met. This position is also responsible for creating process block diagrams, PIDs & control philosophy for landfill gas to energy facilities (LFGTE) and RNG facilities using AutoCAD. The design of LFGTE plants and High RNG facilities will include GA layout, PFD, PIDs, BOM, 2D bid drawings, routing/piping subsystem, and Construction drawings. The designer will create project specifications along with Instrumentation specs, MOC & SOP.
Responsibilities:
Plans, develops, directs, and coordinates gas processes;
Evaluates technology needs, selection and integration for the gas processing plants;
Performs design calculations and prepares equipment or material specifications. Solicit bids from equipment suppliers, and assist in procurement of mechanical equipment and instrumentation;
Stops or postpones gas processing if quality and/or regulatory concerns are identified or suspected; coordinates resolution;
Works collaboratively with personnel at the gas processing plants to troubleshoot issues and develop gas process maintenance practices (routine and preventable);
Conducts process and production failure investigations; implements corrective actions; prepares reports to communicate problem/resolution/progress;
Provide the engineering support to operations (LFGTE and RNG plants) in design, Instrumentation troubleshooting and maintenance areas;
Develops, evaluates, and improves gas processing methods; modifies processes to improve safety and product quality, and reduce costs;
Designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data;
Create or revise accurate, detailed P&ID drawings, BOM’s, and other engineering documentation as required;
Compiles quality data, establishes regular communication of data, and facilitates action plans to ensure continuous improvement of quality, cost, and delivery;
Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow; designs layout of equipment, and workspace for maximum efficiency;
Compiles and writes training materials; develops and conducts training sessions;
Interfaces with outside vendors to determine product specifications; coordinates purchase of equipment, materials, and/or parts; evaluates products to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards;
Assist in reviewing the submittals from the contractors;
Estimates future gas processing requirements and potential;
Maintains knowledge of the ASME, AGA, API and AISC, OSHA & ASTM;
Standards Process Piping Design, Materials, Fabrication and Specifications leading to construction documents;
Works closely with all engineering disciplines as well as operations staff to fully understand each process and provide design input regarding process improvement, reliability, and safety;
Estimates production schedules, outages schedules staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions;
Analyzes data for process investigations, productivity improvements, cost analysis, regulatory filings; documents and communicates results;
Approach designs with safety and long term serviceability as top priorities;
Technically competent to make decisions on proper equipment selection and application with regard to cost, value, application suitability, safety, and reliability;
Preparation of instruction and operation manuals;
Responsible for proper interpretation of design specifications and drawings and preparation of project specification;
Collaborate with design team to meet project specifications and deadlines; and
Performs other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Chemical or Process Engineering or equivalent in related field.
Minimum of 7 years r elated experience in landfill gas to energy, High BTU/ RNG, oil refinery, chemical process, gas process and/or technical experience.
Additional Qualifications:
The following specific technical experience is desirable: Gas processing using membrane, pressure swing adsorption, and solvent adsorption processes; Gas compression equipment; and Flare and thermal oxidizers.
Knowledge and understanding of ICE ( Internal Combustion Engine), crankcase ventilation system, compressors/blowers, Expansion joints & HVAC systems.
Knowledge and understanding of Fluid flow principles, Thermal Systems, Mechanical design & Structural analysis.
Understanding of ASME, AISC,OSHA & ASTM standards.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Proficient on Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method.
Working knowledge and understanding of the basic principles, theories, concepts, and practices in the applicable area of processing engineering/technical specialization.
Experience communicating accurately and frequently with supervisors, manager and engineering team.
Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
