The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the Licensing, Acquisitions and Ventures Group.
As the Senior Manager, Licensing and Acquisitions, you’ll have the chance support Abbott’s established pharmaceuticals division in sourcing, evaluating and executing on transactions across various emerging markets. The role will work closely with corporate, global and regional teams to identify and execute strategic transactions.
What You’ll Work On:
Sourcing
Identify and establish strong networks with external partners and engage with potential partners to explore partnering options
Evaluate and prioritize strategic opportunities with differentiated, first mover, and/or strong fit with Abbott core therapy areas (WH, GI, CV-Metabolic, etc.)
Screen potential opportunities by analyzing strategic fit, commercial forecasts, and deal financials, and integrating cross-functional inputs to build robust business cases
Interface with regional management and BD teams to identify local/regional products for potential licensing and acquisitions
Deal execution
Co-ordinate and consolidate product evaluation, commercial forecasts, and due diligence for each opportunity working closely with commercial, regulatory, medical, quality, legal, finance and operations colleagues.
Lead the negotiation of deal terms and contracts to execute strategic partnerships including in-licensing, product acquisitions, promotion and distribution agreements, with inputs from commercial, legal, regional BD, finance, operations as well as corporate functions.
Process management
Establishing and ensuring smooth implementation of ground rules, such as protocol for formal governance meetings and procedures for decision making, project team meetings, data exchange, and other kinds of interactions both internally and externally
Facilitate alignment and collaboration across functions, including project kickoffs, due diligence, business case reviews
Tracking progress, including anticipating changes in project timelines and milestones, and managing complex discussions with partners to map a way forward when unanticipated situations or decisions trigger unanticipated changes
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sciences and/or business with graduate degree preferred
10+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical consulting or pharmaceutical industry, including experience in business development, commercial, and/or finance functions
Broad understanding of the pharmaceutical industry dynamics, trends, competitive landscape, both globally and across emerging markets
Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to build and communicate deal models and financials to management
Strong analytical, financial skills and comfortable operating in an evolving business environment
Team player, with ability to maintain strong cross-functional ties across division and regional teams
Demonstrates ability to lead complex assignments and projects requiring integration of multiple disciplines and influencing key stakeholders
Ability to work in multiple cultural contexts as well as in partnerships with regional management
Enthusiasm, confidence, capacity to influence, strong verbal, written and presentation/ communications skills
Entrepreneurial mindset, ability and eagerness to challenge status quo, make quick decisions, lead and operate successfully in an empowered organization
Strong project management skills, ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize effectively
Willingness to travel (15-20%)

The base pay for this position is $125,300.00 – $250,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
