Position Summary
• Developing HS&IH professional coordinating all safety and health related activities for the facility, including promoting and supporting line-driven safety processes to help achieve the plant’s safety and business objectives.
• Employee/Labor Health & Safety work encompasses activities related to the wellbeing of employees including:
• Developing and implementing policies and practices to identify/mitigate hazardous conditions within the workplace
• Identifying potential workplace hazards, unsafe equipment, work practices, and working conditions by actively being out on the manufacturing floor and participating in cross functional team meetings/audits
• Investigating accidents and liaising with engineers, management, Union leadership, and health and safety regulatory authorities to identify causes of accidents and prevent their recurrence
• Providing advice and training on safety protocols and conducting audits to ensure compliance with organization and government standards related to employee health and safety
• Maintaining and analyzing records of workplace injuries, illness, and absences to identify areas of concern and provide information required by regulatory agencies
Responsibilities
· Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety management system. This includes being a contributing resource to the Safety and Health Manager and the line organization
· Oversees the entire workers' compensation claims process by establishing a thorough and aggressive system to closely manage and monitor claims
· Coordinates all industrial hygiene activities including medical surveillance, air monitoring, noise, hazard communication, laser, ventilation, radiation, chemical approval, etc.
· Coordinates the fire prevention programs including routine inspections/testing and issuance of hot work permits – acts as the Company liaison with the property insurance carrier and local fire authorities
· Facilitating safety related training/meetings as needed
· Overseeing the contractor safety program to ensure compliance with BSAM and federal requirements
· Engagement with teammates and leadership regularly to create a good sense of safety morale as well as a pro-active mindset, this job will require time on and off of the manufacturing floor
· Leads projects or processes of diverse scope, while working independently with limited supervision
· Coaches and reviews the work of lower level professionals
· Supports continuous improvement/automation activities
Technical Expertise:
Thorough knowledge of all federal, state, and local government regulations related to health, safety, and industrial hygiene.
Working knowledge of chemistry and toxicology as it relates to health and safety
Other Skills:
Shares knowledge effectively within the work team
Able to clearly and concisely summarize and present information, both orally and in writing
Cooperates with and works effectively with colleagues, plant staff and external associates
Ability to build productive networks with internal and external resources to provide access to relevant expertise and new developments in the field

Minimum Qualifications
Typically requires a minimum of 4-5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field; or 3 years and a master’s degree
