An exciting opportunity for an aspiring Design Engineer to join the global technical team responsible for the Caterpillar Backhoe Loader, a leading construction industry machine produced on 3 continents.
Role definition:
In this role you will have design responsibility for major fabrications making up the chassis, loader and excavator arms, and will be expected to take full ownership of component design for existing products and new product introduction, to cost effectively achieve superior performance, durability, quality and serviceability. An amount of international travel will be expected to interact with the global design and manufacturing team, build relationships with our supply base and gain first hand customer experience.
Job Duties / Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Releasing to production designs of major fabrications and castings for chassis and sub structure components
Project planning of design and validation activity, and meeting scheduled dates
Leading the design / development activity by interacting with other technical resources, manufacturing and assembly departments, suppliers and validation test resources
Conducting technical evaluations of competitive products
Providing guidance to other engineers to ensure development schedules are met
Resolving design and manufacturing problems
Travelling to overseas and domestic facilities, dealerships and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field test locations to evaluate product improvements
Using technical expertise to play a leadership role in the problem resolution process when interfacing with other functional departments

Key competencies / qualifications required:
Engineering degree or extensive relevant experience
Good mechanical aptitude, with ability to develop product concepts
Strong leadership ability
Team player
Self starting, productive, and able to manage own work
Good communicator and collaborator
Hands on / practical approach
Desired Qualifications:
High level of proficiency in Creo /Teamcenter or other 3D modelling / simulation tools
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, welding, materials and design theory
Background in FEA

Salary: £52,000-£62,500 depending on experience
