Job Description:
Under moderate supervision, the Sr. Associate Mechanical Engineer performs professional engineering assignments following established policies and procedures. The position requires some independent professional judgment and application of engineering principles, theories and concepts. The mechanical engineering responsibilities will concentrate on the mechanical design of liquid and electric propulsion thrusters and system level integration.
Essential Functions:
Create concepts and detailed mechanical hardware designs used in mono-propellant and bi-propellant thruster propulsion systems. Will develop designs from system requirements using computer aided design tools in conjunction with preliminary finite element simulations. Innovative concepts will support trade studies and formal analysis work.
Works independently on larger, moderately complex projects or assignments. Sets objectives for own job area to meet the goals of projects and assignments. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support level employees.
Work directly with the factory floor and suppliers during hardware fabrication. Support design for manufacturing and assembly work. Address non-conforming hardware. Lead engineering drawing and specification tabletop reviews and participate in configuration change boards.
Prepare and present technical presentations for internal and external customers. Generate engineering reports necessary to document tolerance analyses and trade studies.
Support failure investigations via use of root cause analysis tools and methods. Incorporate corrective and preventive actions into designs to prevent recurrence of non-conforming hardware.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
A strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD software tools is desired (Siemens NX / PTC CREO preferred), as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools such as Windchill is desired.
Applied knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) with ASME Y14.5 standards.
Familiarity with government and commercial aerospace specifications and standards.
Hands-on experience with mechanical systems is strongly preferred (aerospace, automotive, aircraft or machinery). Experience with liquid rocket engines a plus.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $73,500 MIN - $136,500 MAX. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
