　　Location: New York, NY This position reports to the NY Life headquarters in New York, NY. Applicants may work from a Home Office anywhere in the U.S.

　　Offered Wage: $169,229/year

　　Duties: Creates and maintains optimal data pipeline architecture. Assembles large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements. Identifies, designs, and implements internal process improvements, including automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability. Analyzes data relationships and data flow to resolve defects related to data gaps and applies bug fixes. Builds infrastructure required for optimal data extraction, transformation, and loading from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and “Big Data” technologies. Builds analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into key business performance metrics.

　　Education & Experience Requirements:

　　Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Statistics or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus three (3) years of experience as a Data Engineer (or closely related occupation) building and optimizing Big Data pipelines, architecture, data sets, warehouses, marts, and lakes.

　　Or, alternatively:

　　Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Statistics or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus five (5) years of experience as a Data Engineer (or closely related occupation) building and optimizing Big Data pipelines, architecture, data sets, warehouses, marts, and lakes.

　　Required Skills:

　　Experience must include 2 years in each of the following skills:

　　(1) Designing and developing data loading strategies, extracting data from multiple sources, and implementing transform and load (ETL) workflows leveraging shell scripting and Hadoop, Spark, and Hive Big Data technologies;

　　(2) Analyzing, identifying, and implementing performance optimization techniques, query tuning, and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability leveraging Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) storage, partitioning, indexing, and compression Big Data concepts;

　　(3) Working with relational databases and Hadoop Big Data platforms to source and manipulate large datasets, leveraging advanced knowledge of SQL and data warehousing, including TOAD, Teradata SQL Assistant, and Ambari;

　　(4) Designing data models, including normalized and denormalized datasets, and maintaining architecture standards across the enterprise data warehouse (EDW); and,

　　(5) Following the development lifecycle, creating deployment scripts, preparing test cases, and executing rollback and backup steps for change management process leveraging Jira and GIT version control.
