Duties include responsibility for designated portions of the City's general ledger, including capital assets, inventory, leases, subscription-based arrangements, and other assigned financial accounting operations. Work requires a technical understanding of accounts and accounting systems, controls, and operations and a strong understanding of applicable Governmental Accounting Standards Board pronouncements. Demonstrates a commitment and supports a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  Examples of DutiesServes ina fiduciary capacity for theCity, safeguarding theCity's property,equipment, moneys, andassetsagainst unauthorized useorremoval, aswell as from loss due to criminal act or breach of trust.Responsibleforallaspectsofcapitalassetaccounting,including:Ensures all fixed asset and construction-in-progress(CIP) transactions are recorded monthly inaccordance withGenerally Accepted Accounting Principles, GovernmentalAccounting Standards,andCitycapitalassetpolicies and procedures.Reconciles the fixed assets subsidiary ledger to the general ledger, including performing monthly fixed asset roll forward schedules and support.Calculatesandrecordsdepreciationandpreparessupportingdocumentation.Reviews,analyzes,andprocesses allcapitalasset disposalrequests.Reconcilesprojectescrowandretainageaccounts.Prepares andprovides monthly, quarterly and/or annual CIPprojectcostreports.ReviewsCIPreportspreparedbyotherDivisions foraccuracy.Supports annual external audit requirements for capital assets and CIP projects, including providing sample support and variance analysis comments.Typical QualificationsKnowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles and practices as applied to the maintenance of accounts in a revenue support public including standard office automation hardware and software; computer equipment and software applications related to assignments.Knowledge of internal controls principles; basic business data processing principles and application.Ability to produce accurate financial ledgers and related reports; maintain detailed and accurate records; work effectively under deadlines; perform complex and specialized financial technical and analysis elated to the preparation, processing, and maintenance of the City's accounting records.Perform computational tasks and other technical functions with accuracy; compile and reconcile numerical and financial data; learn and effectively apply the laws, rules and regulations of financial record keeping.Prioritize work, coordinate several activities and follow up as required; operate standard office equipment; work effectively in the absence of supervision; and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Ability to maintain an assigned accounting area or activity; apply and implement internal controls; examine accounts, account entries, and transactions; identify errors and take appropriate actions.Identify and resolve discrepancies in accounts; compile data, verify its accuracy, and prepare reports; ensure that accounts are maintained in accordance with applicable accounting principles and standards.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the work; communicate effectively orally and in writing.Prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial records and statements; prepare written reports and make recommendations.Ability to u derstand, interpret, and apply local, State, and Federal codes related to assignment.Conduct departmental or business audits of assigned areas.Exercise good judgment in the application and interpretation of policy, regulations, and procedures related to assignment.Prioritize work, coordinate several activities, and follow up as required.Education and ExperienceBachelor'sdegreeinaccounting,finance,orarelatedfield.Atleastfouryearsofprogressivelyresponsibleaccountingexperience. Prefers capital assets experience.Experience in a municipality.Experience with ERP systems.
