The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for supporting the operational efficiency and smooth running of the Business Office. This includes performing office functions as well as accounting functions. The Senior Accountant will oversee the accounts payable functions of the university. The Senior Accountant must maintain confidential files and information. The salary range for this position is $59,000-$65,000.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing the Accounts Payable automation exceptions queue
Responsible for understanding and training users on how to use the AP portion of our e-procurement system
Build & Maintain AP vendors in Banner; including addresses, EIN’s, and ACH Information
Review and correct the AP errors and duplicates report weekly in preparation for the check run
Responsible for monitoring unclaimed funds, following up with vendors to resolve, and reporting unclaimed funds to NYS in compliance with reporting deadlines
Responsible for monthly accounting of Grinding Room inventory and reconciliation between Banner and the Grinding Room inventory System
Responsible for monthly accounting of the Saxon Inn Hotel and reconciliation between Banner and the hotel guest accounting system
Responsible for the annual financial activities of Saxon Inn Incorporated, including reconciling and annual inventory counts
Monitor and prepare invoices for all internal invoicing functions including AVI, Foster Lake, Housing Corp, Saxon Inn Inc. and other miscellaneous programs regularly
Direct liaison between Student Senate and other student clubs to process fund transfers and ensure understanding of accounting processes
Assists with inventory control by performing a physical inventory of capitalized equipment throughout campus
Works directly with our campus food service provider and various campus departments to perform an annual inventory review
Prepare bank reconciliations and other various analysis and reports for Controller as assigned
Backup for any AP functions, cashiering functions, or other business office day-to-day duties as necessary
Supports and assists in creating intersections for faculty, staff and students that will assist in transforming people’s lives
Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students
Maintains a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence and respect for a wide range of identities and experiences, therefore welcoming and supporting all faculty, staff and students and expanding access to the AU experience
Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment
Participates in all required assigned training, including safety training and will comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols
Effective written and oral communication skills
Contributes to the overall success of the University by performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications-Education & Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Finance or Accounting required, with 5+ years of experience in accounting and budgeting
Knowledge of accounting and excel required
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Knowledge of SCT Banner Finance as well as SUNY operations a plus
Experience working with databases and strong analytical background preferred
