The Equipment Performance division leads our standard of equipment performance reliability excellence for Operations and is comprised of Equipment Performance, Strategy and Support, Station Maintenance and Outages.
In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, the Equipment Performance Division is currently hiring for a Section Manager, Maintenance to join the team supporting the Turbine Services section.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.
The Section Manager, Maintenance will carry out the responsibilities across the following areas:
People Leadership
Provide leadership to staff so they collaborate competently and with full commitment, with their line Manager and with each other in pursuing the goals set by the company
Maintain a team capable of producing the outputs required. Develop and train all staff to ensure they meet the required performance standards. Invest in leadership development for self and direct reports
Coach and mentor managers and equipment performance staff in fundamental areas such as:
Human Performance
Maintenance Personnel Knowledge
High Quality Corrective and Preventive Maintenance
Deliberate and Conservative Actions
Communication of Technical Information
Ownership of Plant Performance
Supplemental Personnel
Maintenance Fundamental and Technical Skills
Oversee the activities of various groups (including own staff) involved in the outage and online processes
Demonstrate behaviours that support Bruce Power’s values and compliance with the Code of Conduct
Provide a safe and healthy work environment
Strategy and Oversight
Inspire and motivate your team to demonstrate strong ownership for reliable equipment performance by breaking silos (drive cross-functional teamwork), leveraging trade feedback on the maintenance strategy, and implementing effective corrective actions to address rework and unplanned equipment failures
Lead your team in the development of maintenance strategies and work programs that improve safety, crew performance, and equipment reliability
Report costs incurred versus budget and assist the Line/Company in controlling costs
Observe, analyze, and report on the performance of maintenance crews / section. Prepare and implement performance improvement / recovery plans
Review and incorporate relevant operating experience into maintenance practices / procedures
Planning and Preparation
Manage the planning of online and outage maintenance work activities involved in but not limited to the following areas: work management systems, prerequisite support work, employee tools, additional controls, estimate of time and manpower, etc.
In collaboration with Work Management Coordinator, Workgroup Coordinators/FLMs, Work Week Leaders, and Project staff, oversee that maintenance planning activities are completed per milestones and sufficient time for adjustments is maintained
Develop staffing strategies that ensure appropriate capability and supervision is assigned to complete both online & outage preventive / corrective / other (ex. project, MCR) maintenance activities as planned
Prepare forecasts of regular, temporary and contract staff requirements. Prepare plans for the manpower within the Maintenance Sections and for the assignment of manpower across the organization
Execution
Through observation and coaching, ensure that performance team conducts maintenance activities in a conservative fashion with due regard for nuclear, industrial, radiological, and environmental safety
Through observation and coaching, ensure that performance team conducts maintenance activities to a high quality in accordance with technical fundamentals, Bruce Power policies/procedures, and standards/expectations for the conduct of maintenance
Manage the execution of both online & outage preventive / corrective / other (ex. project, MCR) maintenance activities by civil or control or mechanical maintenance trades
Ensure all reporting requirements with respect to Incidents, Station Condition Records, Corrective Action Plans, Action Requests and Work Requests, are effectively completed and processed in a timely manner
Commit to and comply with the site requirements for Workplace Inspections and Safety
Provide a safe and healthy environment that values workforce diversity and is free from discrimination and harassment
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of business operations, organization, functions, operating policies and procedures, regulations, and license requirements
Excellent organization, planning, time management and project management abilities. Proven ability to meet deadlines with grace under pressure
Ability to establish excellent working relationships with both internal and external contacts
Excellent level of written, verbal and presentation skills
Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Ability to effectively communicate to senior management and external stakeholders
Experience working with turbines and generators with a history of effectively addressing technical challenges and making sound decisions.
Experience working in Bruce Power or Energy Industry outage environment is an asset.
Education and Experience Requirements
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of Grade 12 plus three years' post-secondary studies in an appropriate discipline or by having the equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 8 years and up to and including 10 years of progressive management experience in a related field
