Description The School of Nursing at Stony Brook University invites/seeks applications for a 0.6 - 1.0 Midwifery program director faculty position to teach in the Graduate program. The program director role is multifaceted, requiring a combination of entrepreneurial, leadership, and scholarship activities. Recent practice experience as Certified Nurse Midwife is required. Demonstrated mastery in clinical care to enhance curriculum delivery and development in the Nurse Midwifery (NM) program. Prior experience precepting APRN students and/or upper division teaching experience is preferred. The Program Director reports directly to the Chair of the Department with secondary consultation from the Associate Deans and the Dean. The NM Program Director is responsible for delivering a high quality educational program for students within the program. It is expected that the program will be in compliance with all professional standards, guidelines and benchmarks as outlined in the School of Nursing Evaluation Plan consistent with the mission, vision and values of the School of Nursing. The Program Director is accountable for successful teaching and learning practices within the NM Program.
As an Assistant/Associate Professor or Clinical Assistant/Clinical Associate Professor, you are expected to contribute to the educational, research, clinical and community service mission of the School of Nursing. The school of nursing faculty are leaders in the implementation of innovative student-centered learning strategies for the development of strong clinical reasoning skills in graduates. Candidates who excel in the delivery of online and hybrid teaching formats are strongly encouraged to apply.
All candidates should be prepared to pursue the Scholarship of Teaching in the development of critically reflective knowledge about teaching and learning. Such an approach emphasizes the development, testing, and dissemination of advances in both pedagogy and andragogy. Candidates are also expected to contribute to the tripartite mission of a major research intensive university by contributing to the research and/or practice/service mission of the university. Candidates on tenure track will be responsible for producing scholarship commensurate with the requirements of tenure, and contribute to the advancement of the School of Nursing through student advisement, service on committees and participation in the broader university and disciplinary communities. This position may provide/allows options to continue to engage in clinical practice opportunities at Stony Brook Academic Medical Center.
All candidates should be prepared to mentor students as future nurse leaders, be committed to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion, and foster collaborative interdisciplinary learning experiences that expand student understanding of patient-centered care. Full-time faculty must be willing to be available for regular, on-campus engagement in SBU SON activities.
