As an Environmental Specialist with our Stormwater Division, you will work to implement water quality and innovative seagrass field sampling throughout Sarasota County. Conduct outreach programs and educate the community on how to improve water quality and the aquatic environment, and how to reduce the impact of stormwater runoff.   Perform water quality field sampling and logistics.

  Coordinate the Seagrass Monitoring Program.

  Conduct data management, analysis, recordkeeping, and reporting.

  Perform complex analysis and interpret those results.

  Prepare technical publications, correspondence, documents, and plans.

  Educate, support, and encourage the community to participate in projects that enhance the environment.

  Produce printed materials, videos, and photographs and conduct presentations to various organizations, groups, neighborhoods, media, and educators.

  Build relationships and raise environmental awareness about Sarasota's water resources.

  Work with consultants to develop and implement cost-effective outreach programs.

  Manage consultant contracts, reviewing and approving invoices on a monthly basis.

  Support the Neighborhood Environmental Stewardship Team (NEST) Program.

  Support compliance with Total Maximum Daily Load and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System programs.

  Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  About You

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in one of the biological or physical sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related environmental field appropriate to the position AND two (2) years of professional experience

  -OR- Master's degree from an accredited college in one of the biological or physical sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related environmental field appropriate to the position AND one (1) year of professional experience

  -OR- Progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for­-year basis for the required college degree

  A valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Experience with water quality sampling, sondes and meter technology, lab practices, and quality assurance .

  Basic GIS (ArcMap) abilities.

  Public speaking and media relations experience.

  Boat handling skills (includ i ng trailer driving and backing up) .

  Florida Safe Boating Card .

  SCUBA certification .

  Physical Demands:

  May occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

  Starting Pay Range: $52,936.00 - $56,000.00

  Position Salary Range: $52,936.00 - $89,980.80
