About Safety Technician I

  The Safety Technician I

  Will be responsible to perform daily inspections of scaffolding in various work areas including sea going vessels, piers, docks and buildings. Document inspection. Communicate safety & health findings with subcontractors and customers on a daily basis. Ensuring compliance with safety / health regulations, company policies and procedures, consensus standards, and customer requirements. Identifying and facilitating corrections of potential hazards, hazards and infractions, or ceasing operations until corrected. Areas of concern: life and safety codes, safe work practices, personal protective equipment usage, walking & working surfaces, hot work, slips, trips, fall protections, fire prevention, housekeeping, confined and enclosed space entry, hazard communication standards and Global Harmonizing System, electrical safety, etc.

  Candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with employees, management, customers, subcontractors and regulatory agencies. Ability to provide training to groups of various sizes.

  Knowledge and skills of computer use and programs using Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  Populate and maintain department data bases, archiving, report writing, maintaining files, etc. Capable to work in a variety of physically demanding environments and weather conditions. Including climbing, bending, crawling, working at heights, inside of enclosed and confined spaces, heat, rain, wind, etc.

  Candidate must possess:

  OSHA 10 Maritime (Construction a plus)

  DBIDS (Ability to obtain badge)

  Drivers License & reliable transportation

  First aid & CPR Certification

  1-2 years minimum of scaffold and/or maritime shipboard experience

  Understanding of ship designs and ability to navigate throughout the ship

  Understanding of maritime facilities and ability to navigate throughout the yard

  Knowledge of CFR's & NAVSEA Standard Items

  Scaffold Competent Person Certificate

  This position is subject to overtime to include weekends and holidays.

  Job duties/responsibilities:

  Visit current jobs daily to conduct safety audits on personnel, equipment and materials.

  Research and implement new material handling processes.

  Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies base on available facts.

  Prepare and conduct safety training session for employees and vendors.

  Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.)

  Lead injury and incident inquiries and evaluations

  Walk jobs regularly to determine if the scaffold is safe as designed and sign tags. If anything is missing or needs adjustments to talk with the foreman to get it fixed.

  Assist scaffolder’s once daily tasks are completed.

  Sign tags daily to confirm scaffolding is in a safe working manner.

  Send daily recaps to Safety Manager.

  Monthly Harness and lanyard checks for all employees.

  Report to the Safety Manager.

  Pay rate DOE (Depends on experience).
