Description:
The manufacturing seed technician will be involved in all facets of small material manufacturing and production in support of global R&D for seeds and traits. Indoor material processing and packaging activities to include receiving, scanning, cleaning, treating, sorting, counting, labeling, shipping, and other seed warehouse work. This role will be responsible for equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and ensuring operational procedures are followed within a lab or warehouse environment.
The primary responsibilities of this role, Seed Research Assistant, are:
Operation of research equipment, note taking, data management.
Comply with regulated seed stewardship standards, read and follow regulated permit conditions, complete safety inspections and trainings, follow all company policies and standard operating procedures.
Prioritize safe execution of warehouse operations
Activities may require bending and lifting 50lbs and long periods of sitting or standing
Extended hours required during peak season

Departments and their functions:
Scheduling
• Collaborate with off-site planners to request material for experiments
• Determine what materials should be packaged for experiments based on unique identifiers such as pedigree
Receiving
• Accept shipments to the site
• Ensure compliance standards are met by all parties (shipping site, receiving site, delivery company, etc.)
• Alert site of arrival of seed
• Transfer seed to standardized containers
Shelling
• Process seeds from harvest by operating shelling line to remove seeds from plant material
• Apply seed treatment in bulk or small batches
Inventory
• Manage seed storage
• Abide by government compliance standards for seed storage
• Fulfill requests for material to be moved out of storage for packaging
• Fulfill requests for material to be sent to external Bayer sites or external co-ops
Packaging
• Operate seed counters to count seeds requested by the scheduling team for experiments
• Operate specialized printers to print information about material (planting location, unique identifiers, treatment information etc.) onto seed packets
• Sort packets of seeds based on experiment and location in field
Cassette Filling/Field Building
• Organize packets of seeds based on what field and experiment they are in
• Operate cassette fillers to place packaged seeds into specific cells in a plastic grid to be used during planting
• Perform quality control checks to ensure that all seeds are in correct cassette cell
Shipping
• Ship packets and cassettes to external Bayer sites for planting and experiments
• Follow compliance regulations regarding interstate movement of seed
