The team currently includes Materials Scientists, Engineers, and Microbiologists, and we are seeking applicants who can expand the team with additional expertise in microbial genetics, genetic engineering, and physiology. The initial role of the incoming team member will be to contribute to ongoing optimization of the production and physiology of the organisms used for biocement production. As projects evolve in the BioRT, the team member will have the opportunity to expand their skillset to include producing and investigating other biomaterials. Applicants should provide a resume and a cover letter that describes how their personal and professional experience will be able to contribute to the responsibilities listed below.
Investigate molecular, genetic, biochemical, and physiological characteristics of model and non-model microbes.Engineer proteins, model microbes, and non-model microbes to optimize existing functions and/or perform novel functions.Culture and quantitatively observe growth of model and non-model microbes on solid media and in liquid media.Communicate methods and results to a personally and professionally diverse team of researchers.WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRINGThis position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship (and may require the ability to obtain a security clearance).PhD or equivalent experience in Microbiology, Mycology, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, Genetic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.Experience with molecular and biochemical techniques for investigating and engineering microbial physiology.Familiarity with productivity software suites (Microsoft Office, Google Suite) that are used for email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, cloud file sharing, and virtual meetings.Willingness to travel for conference attendance and field-testing.Apply various microscopy techniques, including AFM, EM, and confocal.Quantitatively optimizing microbial growth at various scales, including in bioreactors/fermenters.Development and administrative management of research projects.Mentorship toward research and professional development of junior team members.CLEARANCENone
