Job Purpose and Impact
The Research Scientist will apply innovative technology to help drive the development of new products and improved processes for the food, feed and industrial segments. In this role, you will support the team and provide analytical knowledge to generate and analyze critical data.
Key Accountabilities
Present ongoing work and findings to stakeholders including the summaries and the nature and methodology of the research.
Identify and resolve first line troubleshooting analytical instrumentation.
Execute sample preparation, processing and chromatographic trouble shooting without procedural errors prior to effectively communicate results to diverse scientific teams.
Conduct analytical experiments following standards including the proper disposal of wastes according to environmental health and safety guidelines in a high safety focused environment.
Build and conduct scientific experiments and process and analyze results of experiments and records data.
Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field or equivalent experience
Proven working knowledge of analytical instrumentation principles, concepts, practices and standards
Minimum of two years of related work experience utilizing chromatography for chemical characterization
Understanding of LC-MS and/or SFC-MS and strong desire to expand knowledge through hands on experience
Familiar with the utilization of Gas Chromatography (GC-FID), and Liquid chromatography (HPLC and UHPLC) for the characterization of fats and oils
General technical knowledge in analytical chemistry.
Preferred Qualifications
Action oriented with emotional intelligence, ambitious, good influencing skills
Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
Contextual knowledge of edible fats and oils including how it is processed, food and bioindustrial applications, and techniques used for chemical characterization (i.e. lipid analytics).
Understanding of organic chemistry, and willingness to expand contextual knowledge through on-the-job experience.
Experience using Gas Chromatography (GC-FID), and Liquid Chromatography (HPLC and UHPLC) for the characterization of fats and oils
Familiar with various lipid chemical characterization techniques and able to interpret results
