Job Description Summary:
The Gastroenterology and Hepatology division is seeking an experiencedresearch assistant to join our team. This position involves a range oftechnical duties, including conducting biochemical and other laboratorytests and experiments to gather data for research purposes.Responsibilities include performing experiments, analyzing, documenting,and drawing preliminary conclusions from experimental results. Theresearch assistant will collaborate with the principal investigator todesign and perform experiments with a limited supervision to accommodatespecific equipment needs, perform data analyses and reporting.

Job Duties Outlined:
Conduct biochemical, and other research laboratory tests,experiments, and determinations to obtain data for researchpurposes.Compile, analyze, document, and draw tentative conclusions fromexperimental results.Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments anddevelop plans for research experiments.Make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures andtechniques to meet the needs of the equipment as required.Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts,and other literature for information applicable to researchexperiments.Perform routine laboratory techniques and support laboratoryoperations (general laboratory duties, inventory, laboratory safety,regulatory and compliance).Maintenance of adequate lab supplies, reagents, and chemicals fordaily research procedures.Perform specimen processing, biobanking and shipments.Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories atKUMC.Perform PCR, Western blot, ELISA, primary cell isolation, generaltissue culture.This job description is not designed to cover or contain acomprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities thatare required of the employee for this job. Education: Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline. Experiencemay substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
Work Experience: One year of previous lab experience (can be gainedthrough relevant coursework and studies).
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience
Three years of direct laboratory experience in basic cell andmolecular biology methods which includes but not limited to DNA/RNAmanipulation, PCR, qPCR, ELISA, immunodetection (IHC/IF/westernblotting), immunoprecipitation, microscopy, and CRISPRs/siRNA/shRNA.Experience working with rodents.Skills
Must demonstrate excellent organizational, oral, and written skillsand ability to communicate effectively.Must be able to work independently and take a leading role onassigned projects, under supervision and guidance of the PrincipalInvestigator.Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel.Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing situations.Required Documents
