Job Description
The Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals for the position of Registered Nurse II who desires a rewarding career making a difference in the lives of individuals. Our ideal candidate for this position will work with and assist other ACCS professionals in providing all nursing needs to ACCS clients, including monitoring patient's behaviors, providing direct nursing care and patient teaching in regard to health and wellness, medication and illness management. The selected candidate will possess strong therapeutic interpersonal skills to encourage and motivate individuals in their recovery to work towards treatment goals.
Please Note: The selected candidate will work 40 hours on the first shift from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The days off are Saturday and Sunday.
Duties and Responsibilities (these are not all inclusive):
Serves on an ACCS team by attending regularly scheduled meetings, by coming prepared to present psychosocial history, mental status, diagnosis, treatment provided, and the treatment planned for assigned cases and by participating in discussion of other cases to ensure that persons served receive optimal care.Responsible for assisting in the development, understanding, & implementation of CSP of those that are on primary caseload through direct observation of person served, full knowledge of person served history, to assist the person served in learning the necessary skills to live successfully in the community.Monitor and implement all nursing policies and procedures that relate to ACCS State Operated Program.Assess on an ongoing basis the needs of assigned persons served by providing supportive counseling, by reviewing records, by making home visits and by maintaining regular contact with persons served and families to ensure that appropriate recommendations for treatment are made.Advocates for persons served by acting as a liaison between them and the community to ensure that persons served are receiving appropriate services in the community.Assists persons served in a teaching atmosphere to educate and support them in identified areas of rehab such as ADLs, symptom management, leisure time, vocational development, etc., by utilizing strategies that promote recovery & rehabilitation.Responsible for reading & communicating all pertinent information and attending daily rounds, staff meetings and informing supervisor or designee of any critical information.Responsible for transporting or arranging transportation for persons served that need that level of service by using state or personal vehicle.Responsible for assessing persons served mental status and assisting them with accessing Emergency services when warranted.Involves all assigned persons served and significant others, when appropriate, in the process of treatment planning and ensure that plans are agreed upon by obtaining person served or LAR signature.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge and ability to plan, organize, and participate in general and specialized nursing care of psychiatric patients.Knowledge of theories and principles of nursing, including psychiatric and mental health terminology.Ability to direct para-professional workers and maintain effective working relationships with other workers.Knowledge of the principles and techniques of psychopharmacology, including administration of medication, observation of effects of medication, reporting, and recording.Ability to carry out treatment plans accurately and effectively.Knowledge of the types and uses of monitoring equipment used in providing nursing care.Ability to maintain accurate records.Ability to write clearly and concisely. Ability to read and interpret documents such as physicians' orders and treatment plans. Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress. Ability to exercise sound judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Capacity to participate in inter-disciplinary health care teams.Skilled in establishing rapport and deal tactfully with persons from varied ethnic cultural, economic backgrounds, and/or under physical, emotional stress, or in stressful settings. Demonstrated knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, techniques, safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations.Ability to establish relationships with individuals, families, providers, physicians and staff members. Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I . A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
*Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
