  The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

  Responsible for overseeing the southeast region of the Midsize Construction segment and leading a team of production underwriters that specialize in construction risks. Responsible for executing the midsize construction underwriting strategy within the region, building and maintaining agent/broker partnerships, and portfolio management. Identifies and pursues opportunities for profitable growth in order to achieve a balanced, profitable and quality book. Is visible in the market and has strong internal/external relationships. Leads, engages, and inspires a diverse and inclusive team. Builds highly effective underwriters with strong construction expertise and confidence executing deals. Applies an advanced level of expertise and judgment to analyze data prepared by underwriters and provides approval for risk selection and acceptance, coverage, and price for multi-line business.

  Responsibilities: Accountable for the profit, growth, and overall results of the southeast region of midsize construction. Ensure excellence in underwriting process with the team, including production, pricing, and risk selection. Nurtures an environment of high performance, empowerment, accountability, and alignment. Is visible in the market to develop and enhance presence with the brokerage community. Lead the team with focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, top talent attraction, engagement, and retention. Responsible for attracting, retaining, developing, and engaging underwriting talent. Fosters an inclusive environment conducive to continuous learning. Responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to better evaluate risk quality and further UWs skillset in qualifying, selecting, and assessing risk. Establishes and maintains high quality relationships with Agents and Brokers. Develops underwriters' negotiation, communication, and general deal making skills. Evaluates portfolio performance based on profitability metrics, multi-line diversification, reinsurance, production metrics and industry trends. Defines strategy and oversees execution of continuously improving portfolio in alignment with division or segment objectives. Ensure files meet regulatory requirements and internal documentation standards. Coaches underwriters to articulate thought process, decision making within both account reviews and file documentation. Qualifications

  This role requires extensive experience in commercial property & casualty insurance underwriting and leadership. Competitive applicants bring expert level understanding of commercial products; construction; insurance operations; finance and actuarial concepts; regulatory environment; reinsurance; account management; underwriting; and producer management. 7 years of construction specialized underwriting management experience and/or large casualty. Advanced degree or equivalent training and CPCU designation (or equivalent) preferred. Experience managing or mentoring underwriting staff preferred Skills required include analyzing and problem solving; adaptability; decision making, building relationships; working effectively with others; communicating effectively; negotiation; influencing others; applying financial acumen; focusing on service; executing well; planning and organizing work; and achieving results.
