About Range Livestock Herder (Temporary)

  Temporary Need: 03/01/24- 12/21/24. Five (5) full-time, seasonal, temporary Range Livestock Herders needed. Requirements: Must have 5 months experience with 800 - 1000 head bands of sheep or 200 head of cattle, on open range.One reference is required. Must be able to lift 80 pounds. Wage is $1986.76/mo.Location: Work will be performed in Tremonton, Utah. Work sites are on various range locations in Box Elder, Cache, Weber, Duchesne and Wasatch Counties. Work sites change based upon season, weather and grazing conditions. Hours worked footnote: On call for up to 24 hours 7 days a weekDuties: The worker tends to livestock, sheep and/or cattle grazing on open range or pastures. Guards the herd from predatory animals and from eating poisonous plants.. May examine animals for signs of illness and administer vaccines, medications and insecticides according to instructions. May assist in calving, trailing, branding, castrating, sorting, and loading on to trucks for transport to a new range or market, lambing, docking, shearing and providing supplemental feed and water.The work activities involve the herding or production of livestock (which includes work that is closely and directly related to herding and/or the production of livestock).Some work/tasks may occur off the range, but more than 50% of work will be performed on the range.Worker must be a qualified livestock herder. The worker must be able to saddle and ride a horse or mule in a safe and effective manner such as to avoid injury to self, coworkers, bystanders, or the animal itself. The worker may be required to shoe horses for his use. Workers must be able to work alone for extended periods of time and complete tasks as instructed by the employer in a safe and timely manner without direct supervision.Jensen Livestock LLC facilitates practices of good animal husbandry. Employees that are found abusing, neglecting or abandoning livestock entrusted to their care may be terminated for cause. If the negligent/abusive actions of an employee results in the loss/death of livestock/animals, or cause harm to another person. The employee may be held accountable for these actions. The worker may assist in the range production of cattle. This may include but not limited to herding.The worker will live in the employer provided range housing. Said housing will be clean and in good repair at the time it is provided to the employee. The employee is responsible to maintain the housing unit in a reasonable level of cleanliness in order to avoid flies, mice or other vermin. The employee is responsible to alert the employer of damage to the housing unit within a reasonable amount of time. The employee may be held accountable for damage to the housing unit that is the result of negligence on the part of the employee (normal wear and tear excepted).Terms and Conditions: Jensen Livestock will provide all tools, supplies and equipment necessary to perform the assigned tasks safely and effectively, at no charge to the worker. These items may include, but are not limited to: Horse(s) where appropriate, with saddle and tack; dogs, axe, shovel, bow saw, sleeping bag, pillows, additional bedding, rain gear, insulated coat, work boots(suitable for riding), rubber boots, and gloves(leather work gloves and insulated cold weather gloves). Additional seasonal items may be provided at the workers request. (i.e. winter boots, insulated cold- weather clothing). The horse(s), dogs, saddle and tack represent a significant capital investment on the part of the employer. The employee is expected to maintain these items in good order. (normal wear and tear excepted). Injuries or illness to horses or dogs must be reported to the employer immediately! The worker may be held responsible for the injury or damage.Worker must be a qualified range herder. The worker must be able to saddle and ride a horse or mule in a safe and effective manner such as to avoid injury to self, coworkers, bystand rs, or the animal itself. The worker may be required to shoe horses for his use. Workers must be able to work alone for extended periods of time and complete tasks as instructed by the employer in a safe and timely manner without direct supervision.The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. Applicants that have not worked as a livestock worker during the past twelve (12) months, up to two (2) references will be required. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the place of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer ($15.46/day, maximum $59/day with receipts). The offered wage equals or exceeds the highest of the prevailing wage (AWER) that is issued and determined by DOL for the time period the work is performed. This job is in connection with a future H-2A labor certification application.
