Summary:The Sign Specialist designs, produces, installs, and repairs standardized and special signs, posters, banners and informational, directional, field training and safety signs throughout the Fort Leonard Wood Community.Qualifications:Must have a minimum of 4 years related experience.Related vocational / technical training in a related area is a plus.Must maintain a valid Class B CDL No restrictions, Air Brake EndorsementMust maintain a valid drivers license.Must be able to obtain and retain a Military gate pass.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned:Performs design, layout, fabrication and painting of posters, banners and information, directional, field training and safety signs.Uses computers, scanners, software, plotters, and other processes to create standard or customized signs.Draws fine details from rough sketches, drawings, and photographs, using computer software, chalk, and paints for special artistic effects.Cuts reflectorized sheeting and metal plates in a manner which will conserve available materials.Fabricates metal blanks or displays for signs and graphics.Applies vinyl or reflective materials to metal blanks.Conducts regular sign route checks, identifying damaged/missing signs, line of sight problems, or other situations requiring attention and initiates corrective action.Interaction with customer to discuss needs and to advise on different methods, materials, wording and size/placement of signs.Makes simple mathematical computations in the layout of signs.Determine lay-out of signage locations (distance from roads and buildings) per federal and state regulations and mark area so dig permits can be completed.Install signs at proper height and distance from roadways per federal and state regulations.Checks sign shop inventory to ensure that required materials are kept on hand for use in performing job responsibilities.Keeps records related to sign specifications; work requests, materials used, job status, and proposed or completed projects.Repairs, repaints and touches up signs on buildings and structures as required.Estimates costs of signage jobsMay need to assist in other sections of the RandG Department.Required to work SnaIR.Employees are required to drive company vehicles on a Federal Installation.All other duties as assigned by supervision.Physical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
