Job Summary:
Chemists perform numerous qualitative and quantitative analysis of various in-process, final product, and waste streams found on the plant site. These analyses are used to monitor the processes, identify nonconforming streams or product, and identify components within waste streams for economic and regulatory compliance. In addition to performing the actual tests, the chemist also maintains recordkeeping and reporting requirements to appropriate on-site personnel. Chemists also work with other technical personnel (engineers, and environmental staff) in performing non-routine analysis of various in-process or waste streams. Chemists must also be able to identify malfunctioning laboratory instruments and either repair or initiate repair. These chemists have sufficient experience and expertise to work without supervision.
This role will be working 100% onsite.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
· Chromography, titration, colorimetric, and other wet chemistry and instrumentation techniques are performed in carrying out these required analyses.
· Work with hazardous wastes during sample handling, analysis, and disposal.
· Performs routine and non-routine testing on raw materials and final products while following established procedures and reports accurate test results.
· Participates in quality and safety initiatives, including method and procedural improvements.
· Performs lab-scale bench-top applications and/or research with minimal input and supervision.
· Provides problem solving and technical support during research and production projects
· Handling -- four-ounce sample bottles, one pint sample bottles, and/or sampling tins are typically used for waste stream samples. Per procedure or analytical methods, the required aliquots of these samples are taken from these containers for the actual analysis.
· Familiar with the chemical and hazardous waste handling procedures specified for the laboratory
