The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Public Information Officer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing and executing the agency's communication efforts, ensuring the public is well-informed about our initiatives, policies, and activities. As a primary point of contact for media relations and public engagement, the Public Information Officer will work closely with agency leadership and other stakeholders to create and implement effective communication strategies as well as triages requests for information from the media, oversees responses to legal documents (ex: subpoenas), and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. This position works directly with internal programs to develop and execute outreach efforts. This position requires a strong commitment to transparency, exceptional communication and organization skills. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.Special Requirements
