  Description

  Purpose

  Execute through administration, technical, and management techniques on multiple surveying projects to ensure the successful completion, on time, and within allocated budget.

  Key Responsibilities

  Leadership and Direction

  Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially complex assignments, modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Work is completed using advanced techniques and principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement. Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.At the Operational and Company Level

  Attend departmental or technical meetings to keep informed of new survey technological trends and innovations. 

  Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.

  Do the Work

  Perform moderately complex survey work and assist with highly complex land surveys including boundary surveys, horizontal and vertical control surveys, photogrammetric surveys, and construction staking. 

  Operate and maintain a variety of surveying equipment, instruments, and software, including robotic total stations, global positioning systems, data collection devices, and point processing software. 

  Participate in the post-processing of data collected for boundary, topographic, and construction surveys. 

  Participate in the review, preparation and/or determination of parcel and subdivision maps, lot line adjustment plats, corner records, record of survey maps, traverse reports, and right-of-way. 

  Interpret and establish compliance with state and local regulations. 

  Assist survey crew and provide information in compliance with department rules, regulations, and guidelines. 

  Perform various field land surveying activities that include monument reconnaissance, monument preservation, monument resets, construction staking, topographic surveying, etc. 

  Draft and/or map various land surveying related documents and/or exhibits using Autodesk Civil 3D software as directed. 

  Solve moderately complex surveying problems using COGO applications, Civil 3D, and/or handheld software. 

  Organize, prioritize, and prepare variety of complex surveying documents. 

  Perform moderately complex surveying math and calculations. 

  Prepare maps and plans from survey data. 

  Prepare legal descriptions and technical correspondence. 

  Read and interpret legal descriptions. 

  Prepare corrections for submitted maps, plans, and legal descriptions. 

  Provide survey information to the client regarding projects and programs on an as-needed basis. 

  Perform research for land surveying deliverables. 

  Determine completeness and accuracy of data sources to ensure quality of information in automated systems. 

  Maintain survey related records, notes, maps, and other pertinent documents. 

  Organize work, set priorities, and follow up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned survey work.

  Monitor progress toward deliverable schedules and report project status. 

  Direct or conduct surveys to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on field evidence, deeds and titles. 

  Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys. 

  Write descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases or other legal documents. 

  Review all project changes, pending or anticipated alterations to the contract, additional work requests, and all other factors, which may significantly affect staffing requirements or budget.

  Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements

  High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent commensurate experience required.

  Three or more (3+) years of relevant industry-related experience or demonstrated exemplary success and leadership in surveying program of study at collegiate level.

  Professional Land Surveying registration.

  Knowledge of basic principles and practices of land surveying theory and applications; departmental surveying policies, practices, and techniques; regulations and requirements governing land surveying; principles of land surveys; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, policies, codes, and regulations related to area of assignment; current technology and trends in the profession. 

  Proficient in computer and software applications related to assignments, including AutoCAD and Civil3D.

  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  Must hold a valid state driver’s license and successfully pass a motor vehicle check.

  Physical Demands and Working Environment

  Partially indoor professional office environment which may include exposure to bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.

  Partially outdoor work environment which may include exposure to outside weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards. 

  Mobility around an office environment.

  Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

  Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.

  Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.

  Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds. 

  Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds. 

  Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
