Position Summary
The Project Manager manages all phases of small to moderate sized projects, or specific phases or portions of larger programs. Organizes and leads a cross functional core team on new product development projects or Sustaining projects. The projects managed by the Project Manager represent critical strategic imperatives and are often global in both scale and scope and have direct visibility to senior management. The recommendations of the Project Manager and Core Team will have impact on the division, affecting the financial, employee and customer view of the company. The role is closely linked to the Product Manager of the business platform and reports to Scientific Management.
Duties
Together with Platform Leader and Scientific Leadership, develops the cross-functional plan/strategy for a project. Drives execution of projects or identified phases or portions of larger programs
Ensures the NPD/lifecycle management process is followed. Owns the overall project management of the product development to ensure targets are met (quality, costs, performance, manufacturability, etc.).
Coordinates the preparation of project plans timelines, and other Design Control Documents.
Acts as the primary leader for cross-functional project activities, leading core team and business review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules. Identifies project risks and, working with core team members, recommends solutions such as allocation of additional/different resources or changing specifications.
Together with Scientific Leadership directs the work of the assigned cross–functional team members involved in product definition, development, production, regulatory. Notifies management of any issues or risks regarding critical deliverables and milestones in the NPD process .
Delivers critical, timely communications to the business (Scientific Leader, GM, and Marketing) on product development and delivery.
Ensures smooth transition across the organization for initial concept through product development, manufacturing, and product launch.
Proactively monitors progress, anticipating the effect of dependencies on schedule, cost, quality and overall project risk profile.
Provides performance feedback regarding cross-functional team members to appropriate Functional Managers.
Manages necessary documentation for the NPD process and cross functional review.
Plans and coordinates reoccurring core team meetings, and cross-functional team meetings.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biology
4+ years of experience, 2+ in program or project management associated with product development in a medical device or a regulated industry
Experience in more than one of the following disciplines a plus: Product Development, Product Marketing, Finance, Manufacturing
Strong project management skills required; PMP certification a plus.
