The Project Coordinator position is part of a project to process and care for objects associated with the home and contents of Dr. Sullivan and Richie Jean Jackson of Selma, Alabama (Jackson Home Project). The Jackson home and contents were recently acquired by The Henry Ford and relocated to Dearborn, Michigan.
In this role, you are a vital part of the project team and serve as the owner and contact for the Historical Resources Jackson Home processing pipeline (unpacking artifacts, conservation, curatorial review, cataloging, digitization, exhibit, and storage).
Works with internal and external stakeholders, outside vendors, and contractors. Responsible for managing and developing workflows to facilitate Jackson Home Project based work.
This is a 2.5-3 year project.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Plans, coordinates, and manages Jackson Home Project collections processing work with Historical Resources staff (Curatorial, Collections Management, Registrar, Conservation, and Archives & Library)
• Creates effective workflows and checkpoints for project pipeline. Organizes data and effectively communicates project goals and progress to project staff, supervisor, and other stakeholders to ensure project is completed on time.
• Fields requests for access to artifacts from other departments.
• Uses EMu collections management database, e-mail, and other systems as needed to facilitate processing.
• Understands risk management and follows professional procedures and museum best practices for collections care and handling.
• Under direction of their supervisor, responsible for day-to-day management of leased collections storage facilities, including working with contractors and building ownership.
• Contributes to the effective team collaboration regarding collections related issues and opportunities by providing knowledge and expertise.
• Participates in or creates content related to Jackson Home Project for THF use on social media.
• Performs other activities as necessary to support collections processing, care, and movement.
Your Qualifications:
• An undergraduate degree, preferred in a humanities area of study.
• 5 years' experience in a collections-related area at a museum, gallery, or non-profit.
• Examples of successful project management or coordination experience.
• Familiarity with museum or gallery techniques for packing, storage, recordkeeping, and movement.
• Valid driver's license.
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE when required for collections activities.
• Knowledge of windows-based computer software.
• Experience with Collections Management Software.
