University Housing - Residential Life
Job Summary
This position serves on a team of professionals charged with leading andimplementing all University Housing disciplinary processes. The ProgramDirectors are University level case coordinators, assist in thecoordination of students of concern case management for Residential Lifeand Family and Graduate Housing, facilitate restorative practices tosupport the residential curricular model of education, and serve asmembers of the Residential Life Central Staff Team. These staff membersensure that all processes related to student discipline are enacted withethical principles and a social justice approach.
Duties and Responsibilities
Student Discipline, Safety, & Security Program Responsibilities
Provide assistance to Residence Hall Director and Area Coordinatorstaff through staff training and coaching to effectively deal withand follow up on disciplinary or other incidents at the hall or arealevel.Conduct investigations and hearings in response to allegedviolation(s) of the University Student Code by individual students.Investigate alleged violations of the Student Code that fall underthe jurisdiction of the subcommittees of the Senate Committee onStudent Discipline, including the Subcommittee on Sexual Misconduct,prepare any involved parties for a formal hearing where appropriate,and present the results of investigations directly to the facultyand student members of the subcommittees for adjudication.Provide assistance in the direction and evaluation of the ResidenceHall Directors and Area Coordinators in the area of conduct in theirroles as University case coordinators.Utilize the University of Illinois Police Department Security Staffin support of Residential Life Community Standards objective.Engage in follow-up for mental health cases by working with hallstaff to develop and track progress on plans of action.Provide in person, periodic follow-up with students directly aftercritical incidents.Coordinate the transfer of management responsibilities for criticalincidents when a response begins during the workday and transitionsto duty staff for follow up.Serve in an advisory role to the appropriate Senate Subcommittee onStudent Conduct or to University administrators during hearings.Chair the University Housing Community Standards and Policy Reviewcommittee.Serve as University Housing\'s representative on the Office of theDean of Students of Concern Committee.Assist in the coordination of University Housing\'s bias andintolerance response by enacting educational strategies as a resultof complaints filed.Coordinate mental health crisis response for University Housingresidents.Collaborate with the Office of Dean of Students, DisabilityResources and Education Services, and Counseling Center related tostudents of concern and/or those involved in discipline and/or titleIX investigations.Participate year-round in a rotation of on-call coverage for crisisresponse back up to Residence Hall Directors, including during theacademic year, university break periods for break housing, summerschool, and conference season.All University Housing staff will engage and contribute to a cultureof diversity, equity, and inclusion within University Housing.Community Development
Serve as the co-advisor to the Restorative Practice and CommunityProgram.
Co-lead restorative practice departmental initiatives.
Engage and assist with developing and driving University Hou ing\'sdiversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Oversee the University Housing safety education programs and securityinitiatives.
Create and implement lesson plans to achieve the goals and learningoutcomes of the residential curriculum.
Conduct evaluation and assessment of curricular strategies.
Identify learning objectives specific to the learning goals ofinterpersonal competence and engaged citizenship for students who livein University Housing.
Educate residents, faculty, and staff regarding University and Housingpolicies and procedures.
Work closely with the University Housing Marketing staff to draft safetyeducation related messages to University Housing residents and guests asneeded.
Maintain positive working relationships with Residential Life,University Housing, the Office of Student Conflict Resolution and otherstaff within the University who contribute to the effectiveness of theeducational disciplinary process in University Housing.
