Position Summary:
The Production Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating and/or monitoring the flow of products through the complete production and sterilization cycle. Coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials to assure the plant meets scheduled production demands. The production planner will establish, maintain and ensure proper execution of a valid production schedule for respective items, and is responsible for level loading daily production schedules through analyzing resource capacity and other constraints to optimize throughput, while minimizing manufacturing cycle time, and inventory and achieving on-time delivery goals. This function supports production from the initial purchase of raw materials through their conversion to finished goods. Responsible for production planning and for achieving targeted schedule compliance goals with departments. They provide future demand to Finance for forecasting and budgeting. Buyer/Planners are also responsible for assuring that the raw materials and other production related items assigned to them are available to meet the planned production schedules. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Supports production from initial purchase of raw materials through the conversion to finished goods. Responsible for production planning and for achieving schedule compliance goals with departments
Works with production operators, production management, Planner/Buyers and Logistics management across BD.
Has the responsibility to balance raw materials and supplies to minimize on hand inventory. Ensures scheduling does not result in outages of material and production stoppages that could negatively impact other plants/customers, causing backorders and/or revenue loss to the company.
Owns/Drives monthly Master Data activities. Assist in the development of the annual department budgets, including personnel and equipment requirements.
Provides delivery promise dates and lead times to internal and external planning teams for incoming orders.
Provide future demand to Finance for forecasting and budgeting, responsible for assuring that the raw materials and other production related items assigned to them are available to meet the planned production schedules.
Responsible for Production Order Review, Master Data, Monthly PPH & Scrap trend files and Budget preparation activities
Budget activities include: Creating file of current production BOMs/Routings for review. Review ‘Version 1’ master data. Recap current (Parts/Hr) PPH trend for use in setting new year standard. Recap current component/operational waste for use in setting new year standard. Scheduling review meetings w/BLT to set new year standards – pph & waste. BOM/Routing copy process – production master data copied for budget and validated. Create budget BOM/Routing files for planner/business review. Compare current year budget master data to new budget master data. Review usage probability on BOMs with alternate materials (eg, Brazil or SLP cuts). Add operational scrap to routings where needed
Long Term Planning activities include: Prepare units input file and load to SAP. Evaluate errors and master data issues for resolution, including contacting other sites. Recap Cannula requirements for sourcing evaluation
General master data support activities include: Assist setting up new materials, work centers. Field specific questions because of our knowledge of processes and systems
Other duties as required to support the needs of the business
Education:
2 or 4 year degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management or a related Business Degree preferred.
APICS certification preferred.
Experience:
In lieu of education, 3 yrs experience in manufacturing/planning required.
SAP knowledge and experience preferred.
MRP knowledge and experience preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Intermediate to advance Excel skills
Good analytical skills
Planning/Buying, MRP/ERP, SAP/MES experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
SAP knowledge and experience -Preferred
MRP knowledge and experience – Preferred
Good analytical skill with proficiency in Excel to intermediate level
Ability to adapt to changing priorities, multitask, remain organized and by a detail-oriented approach.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of employees.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Intermediate to advance Excel skills
The ability to think critically and work independently, and as a team, to achieve goals.
Background in Lean manufacturing beneficial.
Continuous improvement mindset and passion for driving innovation and change.
