Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of non-permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Print Equipment Operator 1.Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, including, but not limited to, the ability to perform activities requiring medium to heavy lifting, and being on one’s feet for long periods of time.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking applications for two (2) Print Equipment Operator 1 positions, in the Department's Printing Plant in the Cultural Education Center, and Education Building copy center. The incumbents will assist higher level print shop staff in the basic, relatively unskilled, operating and clerical tasks associated with operating offset printing machines and auxiliary equipment in an agency print shop. Duties of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following:• Perform offset print machine work that requires basic operation of printing and duplicating machines; • Tend print machines during production of finished product in simple runs; • Assemble paper stock needed to produce printed materials;• Use powered forklifts and powered pallet jacks along with manual pallet jacks to move paper products to and from the presses and various other machines;• Operate a trial run to ensure finished work will meet shop standards;• Perform basic maintenance of machines by cleaning and oiling machine surfaces and adjusting rollers;• Perform basic operation of finishing equipment including, but not limited to a Rima counter stacker, Shanklin shrink wrap machine:• Fill pockets and remove and stack finished product from a Muller Martini bindery machine;• Load and unload material from delivery trucks/tractor trailers, and pile and stack on pallets when applicable;• Use a clamp on a battery powered forklift to clamp and place rolled paper stock by the web presses;• Assist with the packing and shipping of Regents Exams, including but not limited to running a • FedEx labeling machine;• Assist with dismantling and compiling all return supplies and bins after the Regents Exams have been taken; • Taking inventory of paper stock and reporting to management the proper inventory numbers;• Taking inventory of various Exams and non-exam materials, that are kept on hand and reporting to management the proper inventory numbers;• Assist in providing advice to people unfamiliar with the print process as it relates to the production unit• Operate a Bail-master wastepaper bailing machine, and remove bails of paper; and• Perform other duties as required.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: These will be a permanent, non-competitive appointments. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. The work schedule for this position includes the hours of Monday through Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm, in the Cultural Education Center and Education Building Copy Center. This position leads to a maximum salary of $42,251 based on annual performance advances.
