Principal Water Treatment Engineer Roles and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Principal Water Treatment Engineer within our team located at our US work location. This position requires 0-20%_% domestic / global travel.
The successful candidate will be part of our Process Engineering team and a member of our Process Systems Engineering team. The Water Treatment Process Engineer will have two primary roles. The first is they will be supporting all the water treatment needs for the projects being developed and produced by the project development team. The water treatment needs for these plants include designing and specifying systems for producing high quality water to supply high pressure boiler systems. This includes both medium and high-pressure process gas heat recovery boilers/coils, gas-fired boilers, cooling towers, and heat recovery steam generators. The water purification technologies include ion exchange, reverse osmosis, and filtration production units. This role will be accountable for estimating, specifying, and designing all the required water treatment strategies and the required treatment systems/equipment to meet the needs of the host facility.
The second role associated with this position will be as a Process Systems Engineer which will work closely with the selected water system vendor from the start to the conclusion of the project. This will be a diverse role with responsibilities including activities like development of P&ID's, development of cause-and-effect tables as well as control narratives. It will also include developing and reviewing process specifications for various equipment, development of plant operational logic, participation in hazard reviews, Participation in 3D model reviews, and field commissioning activities. Technologies supported by our team will include both high temperature gas processing plants (Hydrogen Plants-Steam Methane Reformers, Gasifiers, NH3 Plants, Electrolyzers, and CO2 capture Amine based Plants) as well as Cryogenic Hydrocarbon plants (CO and Syngas Cold Boxes, Nitrogen Rejection Units, and Helium Recovery units).
Our team executes designs that span all Industrial Gases for the varying markets that Air Products serves. We support both Product Teams (Process Gas and ASU) in development of new products as well as executing mature technology offerings.
Required Skills / Abilities:
Provide Technical project leadership coordinating the Process, Process Controls and Process Safety aspects of the overall project.Manage the projects P&ID's, functional logic tables, alarm and trip settings, critical safety tables and operating procedures/training manuals.Participate in the hazard review process and other safety evaluations (SIL and Fault Tree Experience a plus).Coordinate functional issues involving plant reliability, operability, and maintenance, while providing technical liaison support to Global Operations.Manage and provide input into the plant design by reviewing the 3D piping model and overall facility arrangement (Plot Plan).Participate in the DCS (Distributed Control System) staging (SAT, Software Acceptance Test) and field validation.Participate and help plan field-commissioning activities including Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), Plant Start-up and assist with the development and implementation of reliability test plans.Provide feedback and support to our product teams from actual project experience.Mentor and help train less experience Systems Engineers to improve our ability to move with speed and self-confidence.Education and Licensing Requirements:
Be self-motivated and have good interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.Support a variety of projects within budgeted hours and to schedule.Have a strong understanding of thermodynamics and be able to adapt knowledge to new applications.Develop a working relationship with The Product Line Teams as well as other groups within the Central Engineering Teams (Controls, Systems, Machinery, etc.).Have good commercial and fiscal awareness and actively seek lowest cost alternatives.B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering.10+ years prior experience in Process, Operations, Process Systems, or Controls is preferred.Detailed knowledge of one or more of the following technologies preferred: Ion Exchange, Reverse Osmosis, Clarification, or various water filtration processes.
