About Principal, UX Designer - Merchandising

  Position Summary...

  What you'll do...

  Principal UX Designer - Merchandising

  The Team

We're seeking entrepreneurial talent needed for massive scale and impact work to change people's lives through retail.

Walmart - the biggest company and retailer in the world - relies on both on its people and technology to present to users a huge assortment of products, working hard to ensure customers have the products they need, when they need them, at a price everyone can afford.

Our team is responsible for a suite of Enterprise products that directly inform the strategy and execution of what consumer products are available online and in stores and how they're presented. We're working on the bleeding edge of technology to help Walmart discover great products for our customers, ensure they're in-stock and easy to find, and continue to evolve the business with the needs of our customers top of mind.

  The Role

As a Principal UX Designer, you will help transform complex information and tasks into easy-to-use designs for our millions of customers and associates. To do this, you'll need to think visually, using techniques like storyboards and sketching to communicate design concepts. You'll use your deep knowledge of the UX process (research, conceptual design, prototyping, testing) in collaboration with other team members, to iterate multiple solutions and deliver pixel-perfect designs.

As the biggest player in the game, we trust our associates to innovate the future of shopping. If you are motivated by complex, purposeful challenges, a Principal UX Designer at Walmart could be the fit you've been looking for.

You'll sweep us off our feet if you have...

A fantastic portfolio of elegant design solutions and can turn these into functioning prototypes.

You are a "jack of all trades" and willing to dip your toes into the unknown and experiment with new technologies.

A background in relevant areas to the team, including any of the following: Enterprise software, Retail, Finance / Fintech, Data Visualization, AI.

You have a high bar for craft and owning your own design process.

You're a curious and independent thinker that enjoys solving large, complex problems.

You see ambiguity as an opportunity to lead and bring people together.

You're comfortable navigating larger companies and designing at scale. - You can see problems from various angles to solve complex challenges. - Ability to communicate concepts to audiences of all levels of understanding. - Track record of deploying user interface standards and conventions, functional communication flows and dynamic, engaging interfaces. - Strong understanding of design theory and concepts to create effective visual communication with hierarchy and balance (typography, color, space, contrast). - The ability to work with design templates and patterns to create and maintain a scalable and consistent website and mobile application.

Producing great work in short timeframes, multitask across different projects and platforms, and adapt to the business's ever-changing priorities. - Experience with gathering business requirements, site assessment, competitive analysis, and secondary research.

  You'll make an impact by:

Driving forward-thinking strategic vision for one or more complex product areas through sprints, workshops, stakeholder management and balancing business needs with consumer-grade experiences.

Bringing cross-functional leaders around your design process and proposed solutions, rationalizing work with user research and design best-practices.

Leading other designers inside and outside our team through example, mentorship and a high bar for craft.

Leading in the creation of business, consumer, and associate product experiences. - Thinking holistically - about the customers using our products, a cohesive design system, and end to end experiences.

Solving complex problems and working with others with the same passion, to collaborate and merge solutions into a larger structure and create a cohesive design ecosystem. - Switching gears from deep design thinking to rapid-fire execution.
