We are looking for a Principal Security Operations Manager to be a part of the Microsoft Security organization, and a steward of Microsoft and our customer's data, a core function of Microsoft DSR is ensuring the security of every aspect of the business. Microsoft DSR is responsible for company-wide information security and compliance, with a strategic focus on information protection, assessment, awareness, governance, and enterprise business continuity.

Responsibilities
Security Incident Response: Maintain teams' focus on researching attempted or successful efforts to compromise systems security, including seeing through to resolution and aligning partnerships as needed. Ensures teams have comprehensive response plans and resources needed to prevent recurrence.
Drives highest severity incidents that have companywide impact. Displays strong command and control presence to lead through extremely ambiguous challenging situations quickly and calmly. Ensures learnings from incidents get integrated into protective systems and processes.
Monitoring and Detection: Establish clear priorities and influence decisions regarding resource allocation to align. Establishes strategic direction and focus on intrusion direction. Partners with stakeholders to ensure prompt and thorough mitigation of identified issues. Drives partnership with engineering teams to align priorities related to detection in publicly released products and services.
Threat Intelligence and Analysis: Elevates work of team to effectively prioritize threat analysis efforts and partners appropriately on identified threat patterns. Guides teams and secures resources and partnerships as needed to address threats. Integrates available threat insights to drive overall security strategy.
Automation: Drive team outcomes in identifying, recommending, developing, and implementing automation to improve efficiency and effectiveness of security operations. Drives the lifecycle of specific automation and how it fits into the overall automation landscape. Accountable for measurable business impact of automation improvements. Drives strategic alignment between products and technology. Mitigates product deficiencies by driving requirements into products. Cascades strategic vision throughout teams appropriately (e.g., open source, products, technology).
This role will start as a strong Individual contributor (IC) leadership role, but there will likely be opportunities to expand into management.

7+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cyber security, anomaly detection, Security Operations Center (SOC) detection, threat analytics, security incident and event management (SIEM), and information technology (IT) operations
OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field.
3+ years people management experience.
3+ years of experience managing managers.

Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Full Scope Polygraph . Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
Clearance Verification : This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customer and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cyber security, anomaly detection, Security Operations Center (SOC) detection, threat intelligence/analytics, security incident and event management (SIEM), threat hunting, Security Response and/or information technology (IT) operations.
12+ years of experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cyber security, and anomaly detection.
5+ years leading a security function (e.g., Security Operations Center [SOC], threat and vulnerability management [TVM]) in a senior leadership capacity.
3+ years’ experience leading multi-disciplinary teams/organizations.
CISSP, CISA, CISM, SANS, GCIA, GCIH, OSCP, and/or Security+ certification.
Demonstrated sound judgement and follow-through in complex situations.
Excellent interpersonal skills and effective written/verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to C-level audiences.
Expert knowledge in detection technologies.
Deep and practical OS security/internals knowledge.
Experience working on security investigations in cloud services and understand the nuances of supporting cloud service investigations vs host/endpoint based.
Certifications like GCIA,GSLC, GCIH, CISM, CISSP, CEH, etc.

Security Operations Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
