We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Principal Scientist, Tissue Diagnostics to join our team. The successful candidate will be experienced in biomarker research in the areas of oncology and immuno-oncology, multiplexed (fluorescent) immunohistochemistry, development, and validation of LDTs, and image analysis approaches. They will be actively involved in development and application of different staining and image analysis methods, generation of data output and automation of processes with the goal of applying the tests in a clinical (trial) setting.
The service lab will provide fee-based services to pharma and biotech clients, help them understand trial results, in particular as results relate to data provided by Quanterix' Simoa blood protein platform. Candidates should be well versed in biomarker science, translational pathology, cancer biology and immunology, immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF) and digital image analysis approaches, and have held leadership roles in translational oncology research laboratories in either academia or industry. The role includes opportunities to interact with customers and collaborators. This person will report to the Senior Director, Tissue Diagnostics Lab Services at Quanterix.
What You'll Do:
Support laboratory set up and build out including qualification of equipment, reagents, and assays in accordance with Quanterix regulatory system.Independently oversee evaluation/optimization of staining methods and technologies in the areas of chromogenic and fluorescent multiplexing of FFPE samples, actively participate in planning and performing pilot and proof-of-concept studies.Investigate and develop new or modified approaches for multiplexed IHC and IF staining of FFPE tissue sections.Test and support evaluation of imaging platforms and analysis software.Be actively involved in improving laboratory methods, processes, standardization approaches and development of test calibrators.Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures, validation plans, and reports, in compliance with the Quanterix quality system.Responsible for on time delivery of project milestones which includes efficient management and time utilization of team members/direct reports.Manage client facing projects which entails interaction with and accountability towards key collaborators of Quanterix's Tissue Diagnostics Unit, project management, timely and successful completion thereof, operational excellence and successful risk management.Participate in interaction with clients and present data to clients.Mentor junior staff including junior scientists, lead a team of direct reports.Support general laboratory maintenance including maintenance of laboratory equipment, management of inventory (tissue blocks, reagents, consumables, etc.), implementation of an electronic notebook and additional tracking systems for the Tissue Diagnostics Unit, all in compliance with Quanterix's quality system.
What We'll Expect From You:
PhD in Life Sciences or related fields.3+ years of experience in an industry or core lab setting providing multiplexed IHC and IF staining and quantitative image analysis including standardization, generation, and interpretation of data.Relevant professional experience of 5 to 8 years in the field of (immune-) oncology, quantitative pathology and/or spatial biology preferred.Work experience in a laboratory/analytical setting compliant with CLIA and GCP regulations.Experience with programming languages such as R, MATLAB, or Python.Good publication record.Demonstrable experience of driving successful management and completion of complex projects in the translational biomarker/spatial biology space.Leadership experience: goal oriented, team player, management skills, ability to engage and motivate direct reports. Desire and ability to mentor scientists towards timebound goals.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills; comfortable presenting scientific results to project teams and clients.Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment.Ability to work independently in a fast-paced team environment.
