  About the Team

  The Data Science and Item Cloud teams are committed to building anddriving innovation for internal-facing, data intensive web applicationsthat support College Board\'s core products. In total, we are a group of32, consisting primarily of engineers and data scientists. We arecreative problem solvers and idea-generators. We own 3 complex,single-page web applications that represent our internal contentcreation processes. We build everything serverless, in the cloud,staying current on technology. Our data science team provides supportfor custom machine learning microservices architecture. Together, theimpact of our ideas leads to innovations and dramatic improvements inCollege Board\'s biggest program applications, which serve millions ofstudents in support of our mission.

  About the Opportunity

  You will apply your skills while leading large, strategic and complexinitiatives that have a clear impact on the students that we serve. Asthe Principal Engineer, you are a technical leader, a partner, and aninnovator. This role requires someone with strong critical thinking andproblem-solving skills that uses data to inform decisions and actions.Someone who maintains awareness and knowledge of emerging technologytrends that will accelerate your ability to provide technical oversightof our teams\' products, as well as guide the teams toward improved waysof working. The engineer will be able to move forward multiple projectsin concert, both independently and as a member of the teams. The teamcommunicates directly with our clients, to gain a deep understanding oftheir needs. You will work directly with our product owners, designers,and users to find the most efficient and effective technical solutionsto meet and exceed our users\' needs.

  In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  Strategy & Design Leadership (60%)

  Set architectural direction for a broad set of domains and systems.Design and implement best-in-class systems and frameworks that willsucceed long-term.Deliver upon initiatives with organizational impact and priority.Define technical strategy that improves products, infrastructure,processes, and organization, while staying abreast of risks andopportunities that influence strategy.Provide exceptional leadership and technical innovations to featuresthat span boundaries across engineering teams.Coaching & Collaboration (40%)

  Be a great partner, working across technical teams to buildsustainable contracts looking out for the good of system vs. whatmight be easiest for a sole product.Foster strong working relationships with other technologists outsideour team, especially within Enterprise Architecture, DevSecOps, andInfoSecPlay a critical role in coaching and mentoring junior engineers.Contribute content and facilitation for the Full Stack TechnicalEducation program.Support recruiting and hiring for various engineering teams andpositions.About you, you have:

  10+ years of experience in software systems, programming, databasedevelopment, and infrastructure development and administration.A graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similarexperience with fundamentalsA track record of influencing and delivering initiatives withorganizational impact.An aptitude for directly engaging clients and users to gain strongunderstanding of their holistic needs.An orientation towards teaching and developing junior employees.A collaborative mindset prioritizing team success over individualaccolades.Passion for working in an iterative development environment.Ability to solve complex problems using divergent thinking resultingin innovative solutions.Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.Technical athleticism:

  An ability to break down complex initiatives into simple systems.Deep technical domain knowledge: apps, services, systems, orframeworksStrong knowledge and hands-on experience with a growing set oflanguages, with experience in JavaScript (especially React andNode), Python, and TypeScriptStrong knowledge of the AWS cloud platform and experience workingwith AWS resources such as Lambda, SNS, SQS, S3, Kinesis, StepFunctions, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, DynamoDBAbout Our Process
