Take a look at the details below for the position.As a Prep Cook in our Senior Living Community, your role is essential in providing high-quality meals and contributing to the overall well-being and satisfaction of our residents. You will be responsible for preparing food items, following recipes and portion guidelines, and ensuring a safe and sanitary kitchen environment. Your attention to detail, culinary skills, and dedication to meeting dietary requirements will play a vital part in enhancing the dining experience for our senior residents.Key Responsibilities:

  Food Preparation:Prepare ingredients and food items according to standardized recipes and portion sizes.Assist with cutting, chopping, and marinating vegetables, meats, and other ingredients.Measure and portion food accurately to meet the dietary needs of residents.

  Sanitation and Safety:Maintain a clean and organized work area, following proper food safety and sanitation guidelines.Adhere to health and safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of kitchen equipment.

  Dietary Requirements:Work closely with the culinary team to accommodate special dietary requests, allergies, and restrictions.Ensure that meals meet the nutritional and dietary standards set by the community.

  Kitchen Equipment:Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, mixers, and food processors safely and efficiently.Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.

  Inventory Management:Assist in monitoring and maintaining inventory levels of food items and supplies.Notify the chef or supervisor when inventory needs replenishing.

  Collaboration:Collaborate with kitchen staff, including chefs and line cooks, to ensure smooth food production and timely service.Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate food preparation.

  Quality Control:Maintain food quality and presentation standards to meet or exceed resident expectations.Participate in taste tests and quality checks to ensure consistency.

  Dietary Restrictions:Stay informed about specific dietary restrictions and preferences of residents.Label food items clearly to prevent cross-contamination and ensure accuracy.

  Clean-Up:Assist with dishwashing and general kitchen clean-up tasks as needed.Dispose of kitchen waste and recyclables in an environmentally responsible manner.Core competencies for a Prep Cook in a Senior Living community are essential skills and qualities that individuals in this role should possess to perform their job effectively and provide a high level of service to senior residents. These core competencies include:

  Culinary Skills: Proficiency in food preparation techniques, knife skills, and cooking methods is fundamental. Prep Cooks should have a solid understanding of culinary principles and be capable of executing recipes accurately.

  Food Safety and Sanitation: A strong knowledge of food safety protocols, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices, is crucial to ensure the safety of senior residents who may have vulnerable health conditions.

  Menu Knowledge: Familiarity with the menu offerings and the ability to adapt to changing menus and dietary requirements are essential. Prep Cooks should understand the nutritional needs of seniors and be able to prepare meals that meet these requirements.

  Attention to Detail: Precision in measuring ingredients and portioning is essential for consistency in meal preparation. Attention to detail ensures that residents receive meals that are both safe and visually appealing.

  Time Management: Efficiently managing time is crucial in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Prep Cooks need to multitask effectively, prioritize tasks, and ensure that food is prepared on time for meal services.

  Work Environment:Retirement community providing service to senior adults in independent, assisted and skilled nursing community.

  Working Industrial kitchen environment with confined spaces such as freezers and storage areas.

  Working at ovens, stoves and industrial dish washing machines resulting in a hot environments (above 82 degrees Fahrenheit).
